Registered Citizens Need To Protect Themselves

As a registered citizen I didn’t sleep well last night.

I could not get the thought of someone I don’t know showing up at my door ready to bash my head in when it opened.

Since reading yesterday’s story in the Palm Beach Post titled, “Florida Man Attacks Sex Offender With Hammer” I’ve decided to do something about it. The story reads, “

Enough is enough! This is not a fluke incident. How many lives will be threatened or people killed before someone realizes that the sex offender registry is a hit list? There is a long history of registrants being attacked, beaten, extorted, harassed and even killed, all because their name appears on the list.

For the most part; being a convicted felon precludes the right to possess a firearm, so how is someone to protect themselves and their families from these crazy vigilantes and what (if anything) is the State of Florida doing to protect it’s citizens that it publicly outs and then leaves hanging defenseless?

For one; I suggest that anyone who is eligible to, file a petition for “Specific Authority to Own, Possess or Use Firearm”

The application can be found here:

https://www.fcor.state.fl.us/docs/clemency/ClemencyApplication.pdf

Be sure to check the specific box labeled “Specific Authority to Own, Possess or Use Firearm”.

If you have other ideas; please contribute them in the comments below.

My son got permission from his PO when he was on paper to keep a baseball bat by his door – now that he is off paper he still keeps it there. A baseball bat is not considered a weapon. Not as good as a firearm but if someone you do not know is at the door have your hand around the bat

Crossbow with a broadhead, not a firearm.

For all who can afford it, I strongly recommend a camera or several be placed outside your home.

Agree, Cameras is number 1 but a cameras will not defend you.
2 A highly trained dog -Doberman or German Shepherd is your first line of defense. Not a Pit Bull too small of an animal.
3 The crossbow its 100% Legal an 100% lethal, if someone breaks in your home with a hammer is one thing, but if he/she comes in with a 45 is another thing. The dog will stop the intruder for a few seconds, time for you to grab your crossbow. The question is will you pull the trigger. You have to protect your dog. The dog is protecting you. Me personally I will pull the trigger… This is what public registry has created…

        1. Don’t open the door to anyone you don’t know.
        2. Put up “No Trespassing” and “No Solicitors” signs on your door.
        3. Think like Jackie Chan, keep weapon-like objects at strategic locations throughout the house in case of a running battle.
        4. Keep Wasp/Hornet spray at your bedside.
        5. Keep a selection of kitchen knives at your bedside and where you can reach them at the sound of your bedroom door being kicked in or window busted in.

That’s just off the top of my head. Stay aware, alert and always be ready for an attack.
