Had you been a victim and not a perpetrator, you would not feel that you had anyright whatseoever to stand in the way of justice the vulnerable children and parents who have been subject to a life sentence because of your crimes or the crimes of those whom you are trying to protect from their just due.

      That makes no sense whatsoever.

        But the children!

No one need worry about intelligent social policy. Because the children. We should just do whatever makes people feel good. That’s why Registries exist. That, and to make some people money.

No informed, moral person thinks Registries are acceptable. They just don’t.

Unfortunately the public are stupid ignorant sheep they don’t bother to get real information for themselves. Over %90 of people on the register were put there as kids. In my state you are not entitled to a real defense. Improper interrogation techniques are used. Why do people think kids don’t lie. I have dozens of studies on this topic. The recidivism rate for juveniles is %1 and %4 for all. I think we need a register for drunk drivers and shoplifters and bad stinky farters.

Go troll elsewhere, “MJohnson.” You and the Books are merely proving this registry is nothing but a revenge tactic.

I have nothing but the upmost respect for the empathy you shown in your post. I thank you and appreciate your concern about the horrific sexual abuse I suffered at the hands of my uncle 14 days before my 10 birthday..

You seem to you assume that those who were offended at an early age do not grow up to become offenders themselves? Although not all do a a large majority will. Its just part of the life sentences and emotional trauma these vulnerable victims endure.

I would be more than willing to discuss the impact and how I was able to move from victim to offender to recovery.

You are so completely misinformed. At least educate yourself about recidivism before you make comments about them.

I get what you are saying, but the registry was NOT proposed as an additional punishment, but a way to keep people safer- which evidence supports it doesn’t actually do. No one here has said anything about child molestation or any sex crime being legal or going unpunished, just that unfair housing restrictions make it less safe by forcing people into homelessness. I say this a registered sex offender myself, and someone who supports the existence or the registry that having some forced to live on the street is less safe for society than letting them have a stable home.

I have been a victim, and a parent of 3 victims, 2 rape, 1 molestation. A registry would not have helped any, and none of the perpetrators are registered. I am also a parent of a registrant, he was 18 @ time, now almost 30. I was proud of my youngest daughter who after being raped walked out of her civics class in protest of the registry. One of my heroes is Patty Wetterling, mother of Jacob Wetterling, who advocates for changing the SORNA laws. She believes we have gone too far, we are punishing people for life whom are not a danger for life.

Maybe I missed something, but does nobody else realize that the laws they are passing wouldn’t have done anything to prevent her from being victimized? Unless Ron hired a previously convicted sex offender to be his daughter’s nanny,

So why do people still let her use this to get sympathy? Is no one willing to call these two on their BS? Not that what happened to her isn’t horrible, buy nothing they have done would have prevented it.

This man is full of hate and guilt because of what happened to his daughter. I can’t stand the man. Even his voice annoys me. Though I feel bad about what happened to his daughter, he needs to wake up and see the problems he’s caused due to his lobbying.

It clearly illustrates the level of hate mongering that BOTH Ron and Lauren Book have for people they have never met and individuals they know nothing about!

Lumping tens of thousands together under a meaningless label of “sex offender” is nothing more than profiling and segregation, and is clearly intended as PUNISHMENT and nothing more.

Yes, it is internal banishment and absolutely punishment. It is just difficult to convince people of the rational arguments to overcome the fear and stigma.

The only monsters that we should watch out for are corrupted politicians like Rep Chris smith, the vigilantes, and of course Ron and Lauren Book.

That’s right. Here’s all I got to say, you are not GOD, it’s people like the Books that are consumed with hate that all they know to do is make things worse. Not all sex offenders are predators, heck some of them should never have been sent to prison. Because these girls now days look so grown and they lie about their age! That’s not worth 5 yrs of a young mans life, just out of high school , and a girl comes to town from Alabama rebellious to parents and chooses to have sex, with no regard to what will happen to the person she lied to … there is many different cases and thank God they are all different. The only thing I would say to Mr Book and his daughter is you need to get saved. God sent his son to earth to die for all our sin, didn’t matter what it was, God forgives, and He’ll forgive the Books if they will accept him into their hearts. With forgiveness comes peace.
