‘The Dr Phil Show’ uncovers new form of vigilantism by ‘pedophile hunters’

Wednesday’s episode of ‘The Dr. Phil Show’ featured a unique phenomenon. Vigilante “pedophile-hunters” are a thing. Dr. Phil described it as a “controversial form of vigilantism that law enforcement is just not in favor of.”

What these hunters, who are regular citizens, do is they bait potential child molesters to arrive at a certain location. They then catch them on camera and post their details online.

According to a 2019 report in Quartz, criminologists view this phenomenon as “a new expression of the town-square execution,” noting that it is a product of a host of influences such as reality TV and tabloid culture, amplified of course by the internet. The report also added that this global phenomenon has led to a number of suicides in several countries, adding that the hunters’ efforts can be counterproductive, endangering ongoing investigations.

Just don’t arm yourself if you’re a felon. Please.

      THAT needs to be challenged!!

I think that once nanny big government lists you on the hit lists, THEY should issue you weapons. Some shotguns and handguns, at least.

And truly, why can’t ANYONE keep any type of weapons in their own homes or property? Just restrict felons so that they cannot take the weapons off of their property. Why not? Any felon who is serious about can easily get a weapon. I expect I could have a gun in my hand within 10 minutes if I felt like it. It’s just dumb.

I’d like to take this opportunity to throw out a great way for Registered People (RP) to live, if they are so inclined. I feel like a lot of people might live in cities or in very congested areas where this may not seem that feasible. But it is. There is a lot of land out there, for sale cheap. Maybe not in California?! But in many, many very nice places.

I’d recommend that RPs buy say perhaps at least 5 acres and keep it nicely wooded. Put some homes on it far out of sight. Wall off any driveways. Never allow LE onto the property. Once you have more than 1 home, it is very, very easy to find people who will live in the other homes and who can provide security, property maintenance, $$$, and all kinds of things. Very easy. People are looking for all kinds of living situations.

If you get a place like that and completely fence it off, you can make it lethal for anyone who tries to harm you or your family.

Will I realize you are very angry at what they are doing to all of us on the registry, and I get it. We are all mad. But there is a right way and a wrong way to do things.
I do not agree with 99% of the crap we deal with as a registered person but I have a family I love and speaking from past experience, my Mother aged 1000 years having to come visit me in jail, then prison, then probation.
I fought my sentence and finally got off of the remaining unbalanced length of time I was serving. When you comply and get it over with they do not give you a second thought. I pretty much get left alone. I try not to stand out and act like I am just another number when I register.
However, when you make noise and cause trouble for law enforcement ( I use to work as a LEO ) they will make it their mission to make your life miserable. One of the reasons I left law enforcement, too many cops with chips on their shoulders and tough guy attitudes.
I know you won’t take mine or anyone else’s advice and I always look for your comments to make sure you are still with us. If you do half the things you instruct us to do, I wonder two things. #1 are you someone not on the registry just trying to get us stirred up or #2 do you take your own advice and actually act the way you tell us to? If so I worry about what you are putting your family through. I moved away on my own as to not burden anyone else in my family.
        Have a great weekend

          99%, LOL? How about 100%?

Thank you for taking your time to give me some feedback. I absolutely will listen and take any advice that seems good. I’m not like your typical Registry Nazi or Amerikan. I know I’m not a genius, I keep an open mind, pay attention, listen to other people, and care about facts. All smart people listen to other people.

But anyway, yep, I’m listed on the hit list. And I’ve been doing exactly what I’ve said for over 20 years. I don’t know if any law enforcement criminals (LECs) have tried to target me. I’ve certainly royally pissed off a heck of a lot of them over the years. Probably at least 20 rank and file ones. And I’ve gotten into shouting matches with people very high up in some LE agencies. One in particular was hilarious because I just happened to have a close relationship with the very top cop there and his people personally called the guy afterward and told him to knock it off. That was very satisfying.

The LECs have tried to harass me in very minor ways a few times over the years. That has been very easy to stop. They have never been able to harass me at my home or work. I don’t allow them to get near me. If they call me on the phone and say they like to “verify” my home address, I’ll sometimes meet them out by the road. Sometimes. If they have a good attitude. But I don’t sign any of their documents or do anything else. I’ll just say “hello” to them. They have even tried to come around my work for years, probably more than 5 years. I just don’t let them. They know they won’t see me. So that’s easy.

My feeling about these “compliance checks” is just that they aren’t required by law and I’m not going to allow ANYTHING “extra”. If they want to do them, let the criminal regime make a “law”. But really, they are idiots. They should do these “verifications” on their own, without even telling any Registered Person (RP).

I do live in a great home on a great, unique property. I have renters there and elsewhere. Lots of other people helping me through life, instead of the other way around. ALL people who are Registered should work to own their homes and more. Not long after I started Registering I decided that I was not going to let other people control my life and that I was going to control theirs as much as possible. So I did that.

As far as this “try not to stand out”. Really? Who is going to stand out then? When the LECs call me and tell me that I have to come down to their office and give them some random, additional information, am I just supposed to take the easy route and do it? If I do, then will anyone challenge it? If they tell me I have to do X, Y, or Z, am I just supposed to do it? Or challenge it in writing? And then sue them if necessary?

Nope. I’m going to stand out. Everyone is ALWAYS going to know what I think about it all. They are also going to know that I’m making Registries much worse than just worthless. They are going to know that they are enemies. I’m not afraid of them and if they harm me, they’ll pay more than I will. If all 1+ million people DIRECTLY affected by the Registries did that, things would be different.

Lastly, my life on the Registries is very likely much easier than 99.99% of RPs have it. I think the reason why is because I have fought back. I don’t have to worry about leaving my home. I don’t have to worry about some LEC showing up at my house and asking me where I’ve been. I don’t have to mess with them. Because I’ve neutralized them and their weapon. For the most part, which is why I’ll keep retaliating.

Not sure if you are on probation or not but if not, they have no business showing up to your work. I no longer work but never had an officer or deputy come to my work, ever unless I was on probation.
The Deputy who comes to my house never asks me to sign anything, just says he is there for an address check, tells me to make sure to register when it is my time and wishes me a good day and then I do not see him again for maybe another 6 months.
This was not always the case. When I lived in Seminole county, I had County Deputies come by once a month and city police came by once a week. Once I won an appeal and got off probation I got the heck out of there.
Anyway, we both know, each person has to decide how they want to interact with law enforcement. I do not want to give them any reason to even give me a second thought so I am always polite and even wish them to be safe while on duty. It is not because I am afraid or passive. I believe many ( Not all ) of the cops and deputies would rather be doing real police work instead of driving around doing address checks. There are a few I have come across who seem to get off on making our lives miserable.
Whatever you do, make sure you put your family first. You are no good to them if you get locked up. I lost everything once, I do not plan to do that again.

Probation? Of course not. Haven’t been for over 15 years.

I’m not sure why you make a distinction between home and work. It is just as valid for LE to “verify” either. Also any place that you claim to be visiting, when you are visiting. Or volunteering, when you do. Etc.

Where I live, LE regularly tries to visit home and work for everyone. They ask the person to sign something every time.

As I’ve said many times before, getting locked up is not an option. Even getting arrested is not. LE had better pray that they never make that poor decision. I’ll make a lot of people pay dearly. It will be required.

back after I was arrested, but not yet convicted, a man sent his two daughters, both under 13, to my door in an effort to get me to “lure” them inside. I have no doubt he was waiting so he could bust in and assault, if not kill, me. Yeah, this is not fake news; its happening and has been happening.

Not sure I Hvae any issues with someone who would actually show up to meet with a child being stopped by these idiots or LEO. And again I’m only talking about anyone who will actualy show up and try to have sex with a kid.. That is not cool at all. I’m a registered person and I do not agree with the registry. But if a person is stopped from hurting a child I’m ok with that.

Oh, I got a bunch of issues with this whole practice and the way it’s carried out.
For starters, and something I see rarely addressed, if at all, it’s not safe for the PUBLIC.
Yeah..let’s hold highly confrontational “meetings” with potentially volatile people around people, where the person could be 1) armed and shoot an innocent bystander accidentally, 2) get upset, peel out in their car and hit someone (seen some close calls on that)
      3) Some bystander could insert themselves into the situation causing the “team” to lose what little control they have
      4) A friend of the target could show up and insert themselves (see #3)

      That’s just 1 issue

Another issue, is how they often say, yeah ..”we informed their spouse/ partner and or job”
Are professionally equipped to do that?
Just drop that bomb on somebody and sorry bout your luck…no resources given..and “oh yeah, it’s gonna be public on FB and your car is shown cos he was driving.
Oh, and if you were hoping for child or spousal support, forget it we helped get him fired.”

I watch these things occasionally, just waiting to see them F up
I keep hoping somebody sets them..plays them and they show up for nothing.
I’ll laugh my butt off when it happens.
They’ll be looking for some Dude but it’s really some chick who figured it all out from “GO” and decided to play cat and mouse, and sit back and watch the idiots pace back and forth talking to their livestream for an hour.

So why don’t they instead get a job in law enforcement, counseling, probation or something that works with victims instead of taking the law into their own hands.
Having said that, I probably wouldn’t want them as cops as we have enough dirty cops as it is.
On a side note, some people do fight back. One of these days they will face off with someone who is not a scared caught in the act offender but someone who is an off their meds ex Marine or something who turns the tables on them and things go really bad for all involved.
There are also plenty of victims rights groups they could join instead of being judge and jury on the streets.
We all know there are radicals in every walk of life. Radical preachers, Radical hate groups, radical politicians etc who bring a bad name to other groups.

Yet none of the targets are registered sex offenders. Which tells you something about re-offense rates.

That’s because the Registries are keeping those people in line. If Registries didn’t exist, nearly all the targets would probably be former offenders.

That is what Registry Nazis would say. Their lies always have to be anticipated and countered. With every statement.

Again another case of how the Registry doesn’t give any information that’s of any benefit to society but just enough information to engender criminal activity like these so-called “hunters” upon the world.

Two wrongs don’t make a right.
