TN: Detective charged with forging signatures on the Sex Offender Registry forms

Robert Hargis (DOB 2/10/1971) served as the Sex Offender Registry Compliance Officer for the Marion County Sherriff’s office and was responsible for obtaining the required signatures from registered offenders to confirm legal compliance. Through the course of the investigation agents determined several of the signatures on sex offender documents were falsified.

On Tuesday, the Marion County Grand Jury returned a 10-count indictment charging Hargis with two counts of Official Misconduct and eight counts of Tampering with Government Records.

I agree with that. Everyone is always respectful and polite. they have their jobs too do and I have yet to ever have anyone who wasn’t pleasant. Although it is kind of ridiculous to check four times a year since I and many others own our homes and have no thoughts of leaving. I can understand renters and transients being checked on often.
but I am pleased at the way I am treated by the sheriffs and the workers at the sheriff’s office.

It is a shame they lost their job. My Deputy is super cool. He is not a pushover and follows the rules but he is always respectful, always ask if I have had any issues with neighbors, and always reminds me to not forget to register or update your information.

Also, the staff at my registry office are also super nice. They joke around with us, never give us a hard time (unless you are nasty to them, and I have seen someone do just that to a deputy and was surprised they did not arrest him)

Although I hate the registry and having to register, if I was going to have to be on it, I am glad I got some decent law enforcement people. I moved from another county where it got so bad that once off probation, I got the heck out of Dodge on a one-legged donkey.

I see people on here all the time stating 5 or 6 cops show up at their house numerous times a year, whereas I get checked on just twice a year for about a minute and they are always respectful.

Yeah, Praise God, there are some real nice people where I register!! They are kind and don’t hassle anyone and registering doesn’t take that long at all.

they can be nice or can be mean…they got a Life Long Job that we as taxpayers PAY…most of US DO NOT
-most of them play their games; never trust any of them!
-they are one play from capturing the KING-chess match

I can’t blame him for cutting corners. I had an RSO Detective tell me he couldn’t handle the tedium of the checks anymore. He put in for road supervisor. Apparently being a traffic cop is more exciting than checking on PFRs.

He may have seen the ridiculousness of how much these people have to go through to remain in compliance while not keeping anyone actually safe. He did break the law though I hope the judgment on him is reasonable.
