UK: Sex offender jailed after facial recognition spots him with child

A registered sex offender has been jailed for two years after he was caught alone with a six-year-old girl by a live facial recognition camera.

When he was stopped by officers, he was in the company of a girl he had picked up from school as a favour to her mother, who was not aware of his previous convictions.

His sentencing has been hailed as a “crucial” intervention by live facial recognition (LFR) technology, which prevented Cheneler from causing further harm. The technology is used by the Metropolitan Police in specific areas of London where officers position a van equipped with cameras in an agreed location.

[FAC NOTE: Probably a better idea to use this technology than to have proximity ordinances]

@ Bo – In the state of Florida all sex offenses are all classified as violent even if it was a non violent offense. That’s why the score is so high on the sentencing sheet. They classify all sex offenders in Florida as “violent offenders of special concern” even if you pee on a tree, or get caught up in a online sting and never traveled, etc….. I agree the registry need to change to include the truly sick, twisted and violent offenders, however the state of Florida considers every sexual offense a violent offense. And a lot of the offenses they consider violent don’t even have a victim.

I’m with you on this comment.
If he was off sanctions, then what’s the problem?
I have been seen in the company of a minor girl for 16 years now. Unfortunately, she’ll be of to college soon and no longer a minor. Well, fortunate for her. I’m going to miss her though. I’m sure she’ll be calling for gas money and stuff. LOL

So much work to be done to fix our SO mgmt system, with no sign of progress. A registered SO includes public urination, teenage consensual petting, prostitution, an array of nonviolent offenses that offer only a “minority report” sense that violence is forthcoming. Before we kill all the citizen messengers, perhaps our legislatures should focus on limiting those on the registry to violent offenders. In this case there may have been some parental supervision with no suspicion of wrongdoing. The report offers no insight here. We assume the worst with the fear we allow of these boogymen, which is media fearmongering. Why can’t we get common sense on this abusive system deep in federal money, ineffective academia, sleepy congressmen, publicity-crazed local police, and an uneducated public.

Big brother is spreading everywhere. I hope I don’t live long enough to see the government(s) start requiring technological implants in people at birth, but it’s coming.

I accidentally posted this in the main thread but was meant as a reply to you.

It’s already happening. mRNA jabs. The Rockefeller mafia system Hospitals are already using the tech. Not necessarily at birth, but right now 6 month old babies are getting them. It’s horrific enough they’ve been giving newborns the hep b jab for sexually transmitted diseases in first 12 hours of life. What baby needs that kind of protection? The hep b jabs are what’s causing AIDS and have killed thousands of gay people along with Fauci’s death cocktail they claimed was the treatment.

The government does NOT care one rat’s hair about children. They use children, women and animals to further the much bigger agendas. Whatever they can get people to judge and CONdemn is used to further their sick goals.

Please don’t censor this comment. People MUST know, everyone must know so everyone is aware and stands up together and firmly state NO MORE!

Over 90% of the scum you’re referring to aren’t even listed on the registry. They’re people you know and trust. Technology might keep a registrant away from a school but it won’t stop the soccer coach from diddling your little darling.

I agree. Statistically he likely wasn’t a threat. He probably would have picked the kid up and delivered him/her to mom and been on his way. My guess is that he had restrictions as to who he could be around (children) and he was violated.

I use to pick up a previous girlfriends kids from school on occasions and the thought of doing anything other than giving them a ride never even crossed my mind.

You’re right, this person could have been doing what he was doing for any of a thousand appropriate reasons. If that particular behavior is against the law, which apparently it is in the UK, then the individual would do himself a favor by avoiding that behavior, even if it may not be a just law.

If it ever gets to the point where personal liberties are so eroded that mass protests by non-conformance are required, then so be it. But I don’t think it’s at that point yet for most.

What the majority of people don’t understand is that liberty and a just system didn’t come to people by default, it was always a hard fight. The revolution was bloody; the civil war even bloodier. Even then, disfavored groups faced riots and other violence before finally winning a seat at the table of public opinion. You would think we would know better, but treating people unjustly is a stubborn weed to kill, apparently.

Uninformed opinions are as cheap as dirt, while intelligent, dispassionate ones are like finding diamonds.
