Operation Summer Heat targets sexual offenders; includes 7 from First Coast

[FAC COMMENT: WHY DO THESE “OPERATIONS” ALWAYS GET THESE REALLY OMINOUS NAMES? IT’S LIKE THEY ARE HURRICANES. ‘OPERATION SUMMER HEAT’, ‘OPERATION LIGHTS OUT’… I GUESS IF THEY NAMED THEM “OPERATION LOOT THE TAXPAYERS” OR “OPERATION EASY GOVERNMENT MONEY” THEY MIGHT NOT BE AS EFFECTIVE]

Seven Northeast Florida men are among 42 people arrested since May 4 in Operation Summer Heat, which targeted sexual offenders who violated registration laws, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

[FAC COMMENT: 42 PEOPLE ARRESTED SINCE MAY? THAT’S ALMOST TWO MONTHS! THERE ARE ABOUT 60,000 REGISTRANTS IN FLORIDA, IN 60 DAYS THERE WERE ONLY 42 ARRESTS? THAT SOUNDS NEGLIGIBLE? HOW MANY AGENCIES WERE ON THIS? HOW MANY REGISTRANTS WERE CHECKED AND FOUND TO BE COMPLIANT? SHOULDN’T THAT BE PART OF THE STORY? WHAT WERE THEIR “VIOLATIONS”? NEW CRIMES OR TECHNICAL BS?]

FDLE agents, police and the U.S. deputy marshals tracked them down as part of a push to remind all convicted sex offenders that Florida law enforcement is serious about registration, department commissioner Rick Swearingen said.

[FAC COMMENT: SO THREE AGENCIES HAD RESOURCES IN THIS OPERATION THAT LASTED ALMOST 2 MONTHS?]

“We are just beginning our work,” Swearingen said. “If you are a sex offender and you violate registration laws, we are looking for you.”

[FAC COMMENT: WHY IS RICK SWEARINGEN MAKING THESE POLITICAL “TOUGH ON CRIME” COMMENTS? HOW ABOUT THIS, “In his first two years in office, Gov. Rick Scott became so friendly with bodyguard Rick Swearingen that when Swearingen’s duty ended as special agent in charge of protecting the governor, Scott kept him on for plum assignments — trips to Paris, Japan and the college football championship. According to travel records released by the FDLE, Swearingen held the unusual position of being both director of Capitol Police, in charge of security at the Capitol complex from May 2013 to December 2014, while also serving as the governor’s occasional bodyguard for long-distance travel. Scott gave Swearingen a promotion in December. He forced Florida Department of Law Enforcement Commissioner Gerald Bailey to retire or be fired, and unilaterally named Swearingen as Bailey’s successor as the state’s top law enforcement officer.  see: http://www.tampabay.com/news/politics/stateroundup/states-top-cop-has-earned-governors-favor/2217032]

The arrests were made from warrants initiated by the department or through investigations by local sheriffs or police departments seeking sex offenders who have absconded.

The Jacksonville men arrested were: Jackie C. Williams, originally convicted of lewd or lascivious battery on a victim age 12 to 15; Travis Donell Robinson, originally convicted of aggravated assault with intent to rape a child; Calvin Evans Broughton, originally convicted of false imprisonment; Brandon Scott Boyd, originally convicted of lewd or lascivious molestation of a victim younger than 12; and Robert Lloyd Brown, originally convicted of lewd assault and sexual battery of a victim younger than 16, according to the department.

Also arrested was Luis Eugenio Cabrera of Putnam County, originally convicted of lewd or lascivious assault on a child younger than 16; and Clint Johnson of Clay County, originally convicted of lewd or lascivious battery of a victim 12 to 15.

[FAC COMMENT: WHY ARE THEY LISTING THEIR ORIGINAL CRIMES? HOW LONG HAS IT BEEN SINCE? ISN’T IT PRETTY MISLEADING TO PUT IN A COUPLE PARAGRAPHS ON WHAT THESE GUYS DID YEARS AGO?]

Florida’s sex offender registry began in 1997. State law requires sexual offenders to register with local sheriff’s offices, then their names, charges and location are posted online at offender.fdle.state.fl.us.

[FAC COMMENT: A BLIND MAN CAN SEE THAT THIS OPERATION SUMMER HEAT AND ITS CORRESPONDING PRESS IS JUST INTENDED TO PERPETUATE A NICE ANNUITY GIG FOR GOVERNOR RICK SCOTT’S BUDDY]
