Have a loved one doing time for a ‘sex crime’ . The two percent of the truth would not even warrant suspension of a job. yet, the lies of the 98% has landed him in prison – with a branding that will carry ‘Cain’s mark’ on him and his family for the rest of his life. It also has produced incredible peril in our lives. The bank has wrongfully foreclosed, me disabled from job related (county bldg dept) injuries, and my son – an Aspie.. now face immediate homelessness – losing our home of over 15 years. All as an indirect result of his wrongful incarceration. DAN & MJ thank you for your dialogue. . Something must be done. This is far more criminal that the ‘act’ ever was. Florida also needs ‘levels’.. like in theft and murder.. different degrees. 90% of all sex crimes are minor offenses based upon initial victim statements and involve no penetration or direct sexual contact (fondling of genital areas). Many are sting operations set up by local law enforcement.. utilizing computer porn sites – together with coordination of sex trafficking advocates. It is entrapment. period. Before we had witches – now we have sex offenders. We give our sons appetites being left to play games, do homework on the computer.. they get enticed with these pop up sexual videos and porn sites. It is the third largest income generator in the world.. something must be done. We have massive, unsustainable incarceration, and no discernment to weed out the true offenders from the mild ones. We give them all, together with their families, unbearable burdens. Isolate them like freaks and then violate them when they cannot maintain the impossible standards we’ve mandated for them to live by.

So sorry to hear about your plight! I wish this state full of idiotic-minded conservative Republicans, would open their eyes, have some sympathy and see what’s really going on! They claim to be so on top of things and acting on behalf of ‘moral values” and “bettering families and communities.” Overcrowded prisons, draconian laws, entrapment sting operations that prove nothing-that’s what they’ve given us. Nancy, I am a victim of one of these stings, I feel your pain having to go through an unfair amount of probation right now. 7 years. Hang in there!
Another interesting note about this rally. If you look at the pictures on WAR’s website. When they were scrolling, I noticed that a overwhelming amount of blue smoke surrounded the runners/walkers as they approached the statehouse. I’m sure this was done no doubt to drown out the signs of the protesters that were there up front. Classless if you ask me.

I have first hand experience with Florida polices. I have returned from incarceration in another state after losing 4 1/2 years with my wife and children. All my family now wants is to be together and be left alone.
I served my time and my family paid the price too, even though my crime occurred before we were together. According to the State of Florida I can live anywhere since my crime occurred before the law was in effect. However the city like many other cities in Florida says I cannot live inside their limits with my family. Even though we have owned this house and lived in it prior to my incarceration,
Now I am not on probation, parole or any supervision but I am treated like a 2nd class citizen in my own country. When I was in the military 40 some years ago we said we were fighting for freedom. Where a person could speak there mind in the streets of America and protest what the government did or did not do. A country that also believed in 2nd chances, rehabilitation not retribution. A country where once you served your time, you moved on with your life and had at least a chance of being a productive citizen.
Somewhere in these past 40 + years we have seemed to have lost our way.. It seems now like we have become more like the people who we were against then. The America whose rights I defended no longer protects my rights,nor my families rights. If this Republican controlled state actually believed in “family values and the constitution” as they say they do, then they could not permit this travesty to continue. Unfortunately they do not recognize the difference between the hypocrisy of their actions and the public pontificates they express to us all.

Like you said, this Republican dominated so-called “family values” state is a model for hypocrisy. At least you were lucky enough to do your time in another state. Could you imagine being in the prison system here? I can, for 3 years. And it was the biggest circus I’ve ever seen. It’s all about money, and like you said, NOT rehabilitation. They would solicit the funds from the state and feds and make it look like they were doing rehab programs. Legalized fraud at it’s finest. I don’t know what it’s gonna take to change, but it’s gotta start now. Like it said in an article I saw recently. America’s politically-correct dominated culture has no one to hate, so it has now been focused on terrorists and sex offenders. Thanks Dan.
