An Alabama registrant, who spent 18 months in jail for a sex offense he was convicted of in 2000, is facing ten (10) years in prison. His “new crime”, minors, aged 11-16 were visiting his home!
Sounds sinister? How about; the children were his relatives? How about; the children’s parents were staying there with them?

It seems pretty evident from all the above comments that as a class SOs are reaching a tipping point…The Thomas Jefferson quote earlier in the comments would seem to constitute a follow-on truism to Ben Franklin’s warning to his colleagues just before his death: “A society willing to trade civil liberties for security will ultimately retain neither, nor will it deserve to.” We will no doubt, if things do not change for us, start putting Thomas Jefferson’s quote about the “blood of tyrants and patriots refreshing the tree of liberty”.
I have a question !!!???. Why don’t we EVER see any POOR Politictians ?????. Even if they weren’t “,Well Off” before entering Politics, Every one of them seem to become “,Rich” almost Overnight !!!!. Here’s the answer !! Because people BRIBE them with “Donations” into passing these Crazy Laws !!! And those “Donations” go straight into their Pockets !!! Instead of into the “System” like it supposed to !!. Now I’m not that smart, And surely don’t understand Politics that well, BUT, Isn’t “ANY” money that is “Donated”, Given to a Charity, Given towards a “Campaign” or in “ANY” way given to a “Cause”, Isn’t ALL that money supposed to go into “The System”. ??? And NOT into the pockets of Politicians !!!??????. Doesn’t every person hired (voted) into office (any position) get a Salary (pay check) of some kind ???. Isn’t that Salary supposed to be “Their Pay” !!!??????. And with that being said, If ANY person in “The System” was to “POCKET” even a PENNY of “ANY” money that comes through their office, Wouldn’t that be STEALING !!!?????. Even if someone “Donated” money for a Election (or whatever), Wouldn’t any “Unused” monies go into that “Office” to be used to “BETTER OUR COUNTRY” ???. And not to “BETTER” one person’s way of living or give that Person a way to make CRAZY/ILLEGAL laws against a certain “Class” of people in this Country ????. Why hasn’t Anyone challenged this ????. Donations or contrabutions is just a nice way of saying BRIBERY !!! and maybe Racketeering and several other broken laws once it’s Investigated !!¡. Am I completely wrong here ?? And have I opened myself up as a “Target” because I’ve asked these questions ???. If so, I don’t Care !!. What kinda life do I have now ???. Existence is not living !!!!!!!!!.
You are close to target. The same crooks (cops, politicians & lobbyists) are investing in Geo & other private prisons for profit. Meanwhile the politicians use the crooked media to promote sex offender dehumanizing campaign while simultaneously legislating the same group into homelessness & then into prison for being homeless. This in turn creates hopelessness.
Forget ever getting rights back to vote these slimy turds out of office. You will have no rights reinstatement under Head turd Rick Scott. You will have no representation or voice in this barbaric political melee. These domestic terrorists need a bullet thru the brain!
I think this post will probably get some disagreements. But I BELIEVE we should not challenge this law or anger our government. It will only get worse if we make our gov mad. We should accept any laws coming our way and just wait for changes. I sincerely believe our law makers will have a change of heart one day. The more we fight, the worser it will get. Even if we might not agree with the restrictions place upon us. I have confident that soon it will get better on it owns. Just wait and hope for the best my brothers and sisters. THINK POSITIVE!

The reason any progress has been made is because lawsuits have been filed and challenges to the moronic/asinine laws that idiot politicians have made have been changed. Can’t you see how, by the day, things goes from bad to worse….here in FLORIDA !!! In other states is not too bad, and actually, things got better for some SO’s….take for example California….
Let me tell you this….I did two combat tours in Iraq..during the worse time Iraq has ever seen, 2005 and 2008….and I witnessed some of the worse atrocities a human could ever inflict to another…I lost the count how many times I almost got blown to tiny bits by rockets and mortars….I lost friends and many of them got injured….we endured the many times a sniper had us in their scopes…and still that didn’t scared me.
But I am terrified that someone who is sitting in a bench with a black robe could take my freedom away. Nothing scares me more than someone could put a set of handcuffs and take my liberty like a bully taking a lollipop from a child.
So yes, if that is not your reality, consider yourself a lucky person…however, if your reality is similar to ours, then open your eyes to the real world, because in our world, we walk a fine line between walking free or walk behind the bars.
The future of fairness concerning sex offender laws should be approached using the same intelligence gathering. & political character assassination used by our own Gov’t. Dig up dirt one politician at a time, broadcast it & demand prosecution. No dirt? Create dirt or manipulate truth to discredit to initiate sedition from self serving, Constitution trampling tyrants. We are living with a government that in some way believe that they are not mixing thing up to justify a means. Waiting for hypocrites to come to the true about themselves only come bye the very thing they saw in there eyes. It’s the money!!! Take the money away, you take the fire. This is probably some stupid state law that needs to be challenged on several levels. It violates the registrantss rights to procreate and raise their own children it forces children of registrants to grow up with both parents and takes away both parties support system Why hasn’t this been challenged yet
If what he did was so dangerous why didn’t they charge the parents with a crime simple because then they would have to explain why cohabitation with children is in and of itself dangerous and the state could not do that

Ron & Lauren Book Legislated many people into homelessness & then again legislated them into prison for being homeless. Look at laws in Lake County & others like it. Rick Scott will not allow anyone any restoration of rights. It is Unconstitutional. But u just sit & wait? For? A perpetual prison life?

(d) No adult sex offender shall establish or maintain a residence or any other living accommodation with a minor. For the purpose of this subsection, living accommodation includes, but is not limited to, any overnight visit with a minor. Notwithstanding the foregoing, an adult sex offender may reside with a minor if the adult sex offender is the parent, grandparent, stepparent, sibling, or stepsibling of the minor, unless one of the following conditions applies:

(4) The adult sex offender has been convicted of any sex offense involving a child, regardless of whether the adult sex offender was related to or shared a residence with the child victim.
What federal circuit is Alabama in? I can’t imagine this would hold up in front of any judge… Except maybe Roy Moore and even he would be crossing his fingers behind his back…
Oh man… so this effectively means a “sex offender” cannot have children in Alabama? Or they can have children – they just can’t live with their own children.
