Alabama registrant violated because relatives came to stay with him.
An Alabama registrant, who spent 18 months in jail for a sex offense he was convicted of in 2000, is facing ten (10) years in prison. His “new crime”, minors, aged 11-16 were visiting his home!
Sounds sinister? How about; the children were his relatives? How about; the children’s parents were staying there with them?

There’s really not enough information here to form an opinion. Is this person still on probation and if he is, what are the statuatory restrictions of his probation? If it’s a probation restriction and he’s still being supervised then sorry, he placed himself in this position. If it’s a general restriction placed on all SO’s by statute then it sure as heck needs to be fought.
Please don’t think I’m some heartless SOB that hates all SO’s. I’m a registered SO and deal with this every time my grandchildren come to Florida. They stay in a hotel in town and spend all day at grandpa’s house having a great time. I can’t WAIT for the day when we can all stay together.
There is no evidence he was on probation. Here is a story on the case: http://www.al.com/news/index.ssf/2018/03/convicted_sex_offender_jailed_1.html
It is based on a statute. Alabama state law reads, “No adult sex offender shall establish or maintain a residence or any other living accommodation with a minor. For the purpose of this subsection, living accommodation includes, but is not limited to, any overnight visit with a minor. Notwithstanding the foregoing, an adult sex offender may reside with a minor if the adult sex offender is the parent, grandparent, stepparent, sibling, or stepsibling of the minor…”.
Absolutely insane…
Was this a probation or Civil (?) violation.
So once again they are trying to isolate ex-offenders by not allowing them to be part of a “family”. Family visiting and staying with a relative is a normal activity, and here is another state taking things to extreme. So sad that we can not have any common sense or forgiveness within our laws. Are we expected to tell family members “sorry but we can’t have anything to do with you”? No that is a punishment for families. When will people start to realize that the laws are a punishment, for more than just the offenders?
Is there a link for this? Was he still on supervision?
What would anybody expect from a state where “Jim Crow” laws applied right up until 1964? Those laws have metastasized into a national infection of the entire country. the first casualties are the Constitutional Bill of Rights and plain common sense. Now it’s spread overseas to France where the legislature is considering their first statutory rape law, pegging the age of consent at 15.
For all of the efforts, petitions & law suits to combat the Unconstitutionality of these local politicians laws, without representation for the pariah group, the abyss darkens. Despotism of this scale will not be defeated peacefully. I urge all American Citizens to arm & defend themselves & their’ rights by all available means. Say no to prison & jail. Enough people on the other side of the aisle suffer & then they will come to reasonable terms. We are not changing anything with the peaceful approach. Wake up!
John, I totally agree with you. But don’t expect most people on here to agree with you. Just sayin. I mean honestly, what would our forefathers have done in the face of out of control govt like we have now? Oh yeah, they drove them out of this country by way of revolution and started this country. That’s right I forgot. Amazing what bayonets, rifles, and pitchforks, and torches storming your local government house will do for change! However, in today’s age, we are grossly outnumbered so we need a different strategy.
That is the direct action I am discussing. The first & 2nd constitutional rights have been discarded for one group. That’s why the one group is full spectrum dominated by the other. If they taste the crap they are feeding us, they will wake up.
