Two retired military registrants were denied access to military bases during the past seven days. One of the registrants was denied access to a Marine base while the other was denied access to a Navy base. The two registrants are retired from two different branches of the military — Air Force and Navy. Both attempted to access a military base in order to pick up one or more prescription medicines.
According to a document provided to one of the two registrants, the Marine Corps has a new screening and vetting process for persons entering a military facility that became effective on November 1. The process includes an all Service electronic Physical Security Access Control System that includes a list of all individuals listed on the National Sex Offender Registry. The document also states that screening and vetting of all persons entering a Marine Corps facility is “critical to ensuring the safety and security of those persons living and working aboard Marine Corps sites and the security of our resources and assets.”
“We do not know at this time the breadth of this exclusion, that is, whether it includes all branches of the military and whether it applies to the registrants’ dependents,” stated ACSOL Executive Director Janice Bellucci. “Litigation may be necessary in order to address this significant harm.”

I had my wallet stolen and got a replacement retired ID card at what was then Patrick AFB with an indefinite expiration. It is now Patrick SFB and I go there frequently with no problems. My medical provider is at the medical facility there. I get haircuts, exchange visits, and commissary visits with no problems.
Does anyone know where you can get a retired military ID card renewed?
Since RSO’s are not allowed on bases now, and most, if not all, RAPIDS offices are located on military bases, I’m not sure where I can get my card renewed.

Each branch of service, sadly, has its own renew-by-mail rules that are, of course, subject to change. The best thing to do is to call DEERS at 1-800-538-9552 and get connected with your service’s project office. Stay on Top of Your Military Benefits
Also another site said it may be possible to renew online.
You could also call the base and not tell them who you are and ask where you can renew off base.
Shame our veterans are treated like this. If you have not lost your rank or benefits due to misconduct within the military, no reason you should lose access to for a non-related offense.
One more non-punishment, punishment to add to our list of BS rules.
Folks….today I stopped at Patrick AFB with my family and I was refused entry to the base. I was told “because of your record, you are not allowed access to any military installation, please turn away from this point”…while signaling a small street to return. This event was so depressive and humiliating.
So if you are an RSO and you are going to a military installation, be aware that this is a DOD wide mandate, you will be barred, banned, turned away, refused entry to, kicked out of and/or not allowed to go inside the base.
Now they are trying to keep RSO from being buried at a national cemetery. Don’t have all the details yet . They were even talking disinterment of some.
I am not a veteran, but I was allowed to be signed in at NASJAX until I was denied and informed not to come back one day. I was going to play golf there as I had done five times before. This occurred five years ago.

#2 (And you can look this up, it was on the news) Veterans day, 11/11/21 All Publix stores are giving vets (and active duty) 10% off their total purchase. Just show your I.D showing you served or are serving.
For those commenting on the VA, my husband is currently under the care of the VA and has received help since Nov. 1 with absolutely no problems.
After having served 24.5 years in the Navy with 3 tours as a pilot flying in battle in the Vietnam War while his only daughter was born in the U. S. without his being able to be there and now having a diagnosis of PTSD, if this country ever decides to deny him access to the VA, history tells us that the U. S. is doomed for extinction.

How many Children run around “Unescorted” on a Military Base ??? I’ve never seen any, And I’ve picked up Truck’s from every Base in Florida and never have I seen “Children” !?!?!?;?. What’s REALLY SAD is, The “Military” is BIG about COVERING UP Sex Cases !!. . Just another way to PUNISH those FORCED TO REGISTER !!.
I cannot speak to other services, but the Navy allows access after being vetted by regional JAGs and getting a signed letter from regional commanders. Took me several months so I hope my help to AL, through FAC made the process quicker for him. I will investigate and see if anything has changed since November 1, 2021 and post it here.

When did you last go? The article states this was a new development that happened within the past weeks. I am not saying to stir anything up but next time you go, have a back up plan.

Yes. I go there almost weekly. My barber, who lives in Port St. John, works there. I use the exchange and commissary on a regular basis. My primary care provider is at the base dispensary.

Finally got ahold of my Mom , she verified that now everyone in the car has to show their ID. They had a friend with them that was not a RSO but did have a former crime on their record and they had to turn around as they would not let them on base with him in the car.
So she said it is not just sex offenses but were told any record. Maybe some bases are more relaxed but the one they go to is very thorough.

I went to Patrick just last week to get my prescripts refilled, get a haircut, and shop at the commissary.
Yet we allow all kind of people come across the boarder, ILLEGALLY, and our Gov. don’t seem to care about their background whether they are drug smugglers, Sex Trafficker’s or just plain bad people, and our Gov. want to pay them for being here! I would think anyone that does not have a dishonorable discharge and is a Veteran that served his/her country, should be able to have all the perks that was given to him/her for doing so. This action is just one more very PUNITIVE thing they keep piling on to the Registry !!! I’m beginning to think WEBSTER changed the definition of PUNITIVE and didn’t tell anyone. I would also say any law maker that can’t see what the REGISTRY is doing to peoples life and doesn’t want to address the problem , is no doubt guilty of something their self.

And there are also untold thousands of homeless vets all across this nation. Even though we all deserve to be treated fairly, certain perks are “EARNED” by serving your country. I do not think those perks should be stripped away just because you made a mistake as a civilian. And they wonder why there is such a high suicide rate among veterans.

Whatever u do if your on the registry they wont help you. You will be denied no matter the sacrifice you made.
I am retired Navy and was barred from the local base a few years back. It took some doing, but the system does allow the regional Commander (the Admiral) to, on a case by case basis, gain access to a base or bases for specific reasons.
I have reached out the Janice Bellucci and will share what I found out. Maybe it will help others.
Wait until they stop those who served / on registry, from entering the V.A hospitals or clinics. If those who served cannot have access to their benefits, something is wrong with this nation. (We already knew that).
I was born on a military base but lost my access once I turned 18 as I was no longer a dependent. But will stand with those who have the right to keep the benefits they served for & deserve more.
This is less likely with the VA. Military commanders can justify many things by claiming a security issue. Check

Don’t forget all the rapes of female service personnel on military bases. None of the peeps were on a SO registry
Also includes airbases went to work at one by my employer and got denied access a week prior to the effective date the officer said it included all persons regardless of status
In my son’s plea it was clearly stated he would not be admitted to any military facility.
