AL: DOC Commissioner Forms Task Force to Investigate Inmate Deaths

At least 27 Alabama prisoners died in 2019 as a result of homicide, drug overdoses or suicides, according to information gathered from ADOC, news accounts and tips reporters receive from other inmates and family members of the deceased inmates.

The Alabama Department of Corrections commissioner, Jeff Dunn, announced the formation of an internal task force to investigate the recent inmate deaths, several of which were after corrections officers administered “use of force” on an inmate.

Some, however, are questioning whether an “internal” task force is the right body to investigate these deaths.Alabamians for Fair Justice, sent a letter to the Governor asking for the DOC to include several others on the task force from outside ADOC. It’s like asking someone to tell on themselves.

The Miami Herald has been reporting about violence and cruel conditions in Florida prisons for years. Hopefully this widespread problem which exists in many states will be addressed on the national level.

This would be the equivalent of the Mafia forming a task force to investigate organized crime..

So it seems this unconstitutional punishment is only for contact offenses. More “do-gooder legislation” at the peril of the citizens.

Is the Miami Herald also reporting on the cruel conditions placed on the hundreds of forced-homeless registered citizens living under a bridge in their own backyard by their own legislature?

The Task Force will be given three causes of death to choose from. A. Natural Causes B. Suicide C. Murdered by another inmate (with no previous history of violence). I doubt very seriously any official will be held accountable for a inmates death unless the C.O’s get sloppy and let the incident get captured on camera.

Not sure if you saw the Florida news footage of the leaked video filmed by an inmate of another inmate being beaten and kicked in the head by 7 guards just because he had cigarettes.
The guards did not know when they were interviewed about what happened, that video existed of their violent and illegal actions. They were all fired but they are fighting the firings saying they did nothing wrong.
