Amendment filed in HB 45

An amendment was filed in House Bill 45. This is the bill that we have been following and which proposes to add public pools and public bathing areas to the state’s residency restriction statute.

Likely in response to the efforts of our legislative team and many of you who have contacted your lawmakers, it seems nobody will have to move from their existing (compliant) homes, since the trigger date for determining whether someone is subject to the public pool/bathing area is now July 1, 2026.

You can read the amendment here: https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2026/45/Amendment/439963/PDF

It’s still an awful bill and we need to continue speaking out against it. Just know that you won’t be forced to move under this amendment. Just don’t relocate anywhere.

It seems to me that if the Legislators recognize that it would be legally problematic to retroactively apply this new law to PFR’s, then at some point, their continuous piling on of additional restrictions will tip the scales to making Florida’s registration scheme as a whole, punitive and not remedial.

Thank God we can catch these unconstitutional and punishing pieces of legislation and confront them head on before they take root and become law!
My mental health has significantly deteriorated in the last few years and when I received the initial notice about this bill it sent me reeling and feeling totally overwhelmed. I immediately had to cancel my plans and just stay home for a few days. Yet another round of “should we leave Florida?” talks ensued. But I would rather be upset and alarmed now than find out about it after it already became law!! During my first 20 years on the registry I would only find out about new punishing laws when I went to my local sheriff’s office and was told about their immediate implementation. Thank you FAC for helping us, painful and triggering as it is, to become aware of these hateful stunts before they are imposed!!
    Much Gratitude

Thanks for reducing the harm they sought to inflict.

I am confident we’re it not for FAC persons forced to register would be in a much worse situation.

Hopefully the fever of ignorance will break and logical fact based reasoning will prevail. Only by fighting thiat disease can we hope to cure it
