Barney Bishop Exposed

Barney T Bishop III has no business representing that he is involved in “criminal justice reform” or “smart justice”. Those terms have been coined to mean a reforming of the criminal justice system so that it operates fairly and equitably and employing evidence-based, data-driven justice policies and practices to promote public safety through rehabilitation rather than retribution.

Barney Bishop is a registered lobbyist (https://www.floridalobbyist.gov/LobbyistInformation/LobbyistDetail/5126?year=2021&Branch=L) that represents multiple County Sheriff’s Offices. But when he presents himself to the legislature or to the media, he does so as “President and CEO of the Smart Justice Alliance” or “Citizens for Responsible Spending” as if he were representing a public interest group. The only interests behind the “alliance” or “citizens” are Barney Bishop’s interests.

In our opinion, anyone presenting themselves before the legislature or to the public in order to influence legislative action or public opinion should be candid about whose interests and opinions they represent. In our opinion, Mr. Bishop uses the confusingly named “Florida Smart Justice Alliance” or “Citizens for Responsible Spending” to cloud the identity of the actual principal upon whose behalf he is lobbying.

In the case of his opinion piece in last week’s Tallahassee Democrat, where he argued that the City Walk Homeless Shelter was operating illegally and should be removed, he conveniently failed to mention that he’s a lobbyist for the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Department and Wakulla County just lost a litigation to City Walk which cost the county $160,000 to settle (https://www.wtxl.com/news/local-news/wakulla-county-to-pay-160-000-to-settle-lawsuit-with-city-walk-urban-mission). Perhaps that would have given some context to his position.

In the case of his venomous replies to those who wrote to his “Alliance” to oppose his offensive comments about persons required to register, he was completely unhinged, even implying he would shoot them (his words were “Just respond to this email, or try to ever contact me again…I’m a former private investigator, and I’m an NRA member,”).

Here is video of his testimony before the legislature, where he referred to the earlier testimony of our President Gail Colletta and suggested, “We think that very long sentences are warranted; in fact, we’d like longer sentences. And I would just say in closing that with respect to smart justice that maybe what we ought to really be doing is thinking about giving the victims’ families an opportunity to have visitation with the perpetrators and a pair of scissors. That’s our idea of smart justice, Mr. Chairman, not anything short of that.”

At least we all now know who we are dealing with.

He’s just an outright authoritarian fascist and nothing less. For real “Smart Justice”, observe the Nuremburg trials that left fascists hanging at the end of a short rope. In a healthy society he’d be held accountable for his impact on people. Instead, fascists like him are empowered and representing our criminal justice establishment. It says a lot about him, but it says even more about the police, sheriffs, prosecutors, and others that pay him. May they one day all day be held accountable as they were in the 1940s.

I use to live in a neighborhood way back when the registry was founded. It has a home owners association and the president of the associations job seemed to be to drive around on patrol and nit pick every blade of grass that was not even, and point out a spot where your paint had a knick in it.

This guy would come onto your property an inspect without permission and call you out in the newsletters. Funny he used association funds to build a playground without a vote. Was is even funnier, the city fined him for not getting a permit for the playground.

When on my OWN terms I decided to move, I was touching up some spots on the house so as to get my deposit back. And here came the President chewing me out for NOT getting permission to paint. I wanted 4 years to tell him what he could do with his rules.

When I was done telling him where the sun didn’t shine, a bunch of neighbors who had been watching began to clap.
You might ask what this story has to do with the above story? Well, I think Both guys have got to be brothers because both of them only care about their OWN agendas. No one else’s opinions matter. BTW, both of them are probably related to the books.

Bishop is just another fear parasite profiting from directed hated. This guy seems to be highly effective at warping reality and selling the public safety fantasy.

“we ought to really be doing is thinking about giving the victims’ families an opportunity to have visitation with the perpetrators and a pair of scissors”

Reminds me of that time John Walsh was caught on a hot mic during an interview claiming all SOs should have GPS chips shoved up their rectums. This coming from the same self-proclaimed savior and saint of children that is regarded in law enforcement circles as a “National Treasure.”

You can’t tell me the registry is not a form of racism, torture and terrorism!

John Walsh is a SPINE-LESS TURD…When I confronted him in 2012, he got scared, and ran out of the Dining Room along with his ‘body guard’….

….too bad he didn’t stay for Dessert, or I would have flambeed the Bananas Fosters on his freakin’ head!

So you’re a chef who threatened John Walsh when he dined in your restaurant?

I think it speaks volumes about the state of affairs in Florida when sheriffs – elected officials – have to hire lobbyists to have a voice in the state legislature.

      @Dust

It’s not just Florida. They all want to keep this public safety gimmick/charade going because it’s an EASY PR win. They’re promoting a false narrative of fear they know the general public will not question or rail against. They just want more grant money so they can get more HD dogs, mobile crime trucks, etc.
