Broward sheriff’s deputy arrested for child porn charges kills self

FORT LAUDERDALE — A Broward County Sheriff’s deputy who was arrested on more than two dozen child porn charges died Wednesday night after shooting himself, according to the sheriff’s office.

Sgt. Kreg Costa, 42, was rushed to a Broward County Medical Center on Wednesday after suffering a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at 11:27 p.m., according to the sheriff’s office.

According to The Miami Herald, the 17-year veteran was arrested after a two-month investigation into Costa’s late nights in a dark office with “his uniform belt and gun belt removed.” The investigating revealed Costa was watching pornography on his work-issued laptop as well as exchanging sexually explicit messages to a teen in California

Fac-admin you even wrote a blog post on this topic. None of them are on the online portion of the registry. It is because of case law and statutory law that only affects leo, fbi, Cia etc.

This was widely known in 2002, it’s possible it has changed. However, I doubt it

Unless the statutory laws have changed. If you worked as a police officer and are FDLE certified In Florida they will not publish your name and address online. This is due to safety reasons because of their interactions with criminals as a police officer. I’m suprised none of you know this. He or she may still have to register but will be exempt from the online registry

I believe that comment was sarcastic.

It’s very interesting, when a person who understands what happens when someone is pursued, investigated and convicted of a sex offense, would rather take his/her own life rather than try to live the lives we and our families are “forced” to live. This should speak volumes to our judges and the general public.

Politicians are exempt because the have no soul.

Condolenses and deepest sympathy to this mans family. Certainly a sad tragedy. Being a Deputy, like the ones that come at least four times a year. To cofirm an address ive had for twenty-five years. He knows the life of the living dead.

He wouldn’t have his name and address being a once sworn law enforcement officer. Most likely wouldn’t get jail time because he was a cop. I wonder how many former and current leo’s should be on Florida’s registry and Nation Wide.

Yes – there are several LEOs on the registry. Several teachers, coaches, etc… nobody is immune except politicians and there’s no rule for that – just how it works out.

Yes, there is no discrimination with this offense.
