Call To Action: Oppose Senate Bill 540
We are calling on members to contact Florida Senators and encourage them to OPPOSE SENATE BILL 540.
SB 540 was introduced by Senator Lauren Book and is dubbed the “Human Trafficking Bill”. Among recent changes to the bill is the creation of a “Soliciting for Prostitution Registry”.
As SWOP Behind Bars (an organization that provides resources to incarcerated sex workers) pointed out to Senator Book; “Don’t put the legislature in jeopardy of having to apologize to dead and starving sex workers for putting their clients on a prostitution registry. Registries of all kinds are harmful and ruin lives forever.“
We’ve written previously about this absurd bill. It will be heard by the Community Affairs committee, tomorrow, 03/12/19, at 4:00 pm, so we are calling on members to speak out AGAINST REGISTRIES OF ALL KIND!
- Visit: https://openstates.org/find_your_legislator/ to find your State Senator
- Contact them and ask them to OPPOSE SB 540 and abolish all registries!
If you want to contact the Community Affairs Committee, the senators involved are:
- Chair:
- Senator Anitere Flores (R)
- Vice Chair:
- Senator Gary M. Farmer, Jr. (D)

I feel that the more registries that bring attention to the average Public that anyone can land on a registry, the better. They will realize that It might even happen to them, if there are enough ridiculous registries, and finally the public will start to oppose all registries, including the SO registry. If a DUI registry is next, then an animal cruelty, then a shoplifting, then a speeding, etc, the public will begin to resist all registries and ask their representatives to abolish them. As long as the SO registry remains the only one, nothing will ever be done to abolish it by the general public. I don’t support opposing this registry, and support all new registries, to bring attention to everyone, that anyone, including them, can land on a registry…
Let them do it. Keep making registries. Make registries for everything. Make everyone have to report the the sheriffs office any time they want to make any major changes in their lives. Maybe then, they will see the fallacy in all this

When will this opportunistic parasite a.k.a. Senator Lauren Book stop with the played out “victim” card and find some other way to annoy people besides her vengeful hate filled attach on people she has never met and knows nothing about? #pathetic #GetaLife
Also inform Ms. Book that she should take up the cause for having a registry for drunk drivers.
Seeing that the facts dont lie. Drunk drivers hurt, maim, or kill more children than sex-offenders.
But of course, that wont happen Lauren, will it? Something that makes sense coming out of a Democrats mouth
Republicans make most of the dumb ass laws. Tax evasion registry anyone ?
Add in a domestic violence registry. After all , the facts show this crime has close to a 40% recidivism rate. Eliminating all registries makes sense, but until the sex offender registry is completely eliminated we should add these 2 registries.
Throw in a dui registry. Cant let ron book feel left out.
Hmmm, Republicans huh.. I do believe that L. Book is a democrat , and she pushes a LOT of BS laws through . I dont know of any on either side that is standing up against any of this for us
No matter how loud we protest, nothing will stop the legislature from getting this bill signed into law by DeSatanist. Victory, as rare as it is, is only found in court. The sex offender registry has opened the gates for all sorts of registries, this is only the beginning.
Just sent the following to all of them.
Dear Senator,
I am contacting you and all Florida Senators to encourage you to OPPOSE SENATE BILL 540.
Registries of all kinds are harmful and ruin lives forever.”
Registries of all kinds ruin lives and fail to accomplish anything of merit or effect in enhancing public safety. There is ample scientific evidence from many objective sources that support this fact. If you would like to see this evidence I urge you to consult the Florida Action Committee at 833-273-7325.
Please Senator do the right thing an oppose this misguided and ineffective kind of legislation.
Thank you for your consideration.
