Customers of the now infamous Florida massage parlors have filed a Complaint for Emergency Declaratory Judgment against the Jupiter Police Department. The complaint seeks to block the release of videos, photos, customer list and other evidence collected in connection with the sting operation in which dozens of customers and masseuses were arrested.

The complaint (a copy of which can be read here) points out that the premise for the surveillance was “human trafficking” but that no human trafficking charges were brought against any of the targets of the sting. The complaint further argues that the surveillance activity violated the privacy rights of the people arrested and the people not arrested (yes, there were people there for legitimate spa services).

Hysteria over buzzwords like “human trafficking” and “sex offender” have given police license to cross the line for years. It seems this group of targets has the financial resources to fight back. We will keep you updated as things unfold.
