Troopers responded to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center in the town of Smyrna at about 8:13 a.m. on Monday, police said. Authorities determined that Cameron killed Philip Langell, 69, who was serving a 20-year sentence for rape in the first degree against a victim under 12 years of age. Officers did not reveal the alleged motive.
Langell died at the scene from injuries to the head and neck, and from asphyxiation, police said. Wounds to his head, face and neck were consistent with strikes from a closed fist, according to authorities. Basically, state police suggested Cameron at least in part beat Langell to death.

So the Idiocracy that is those who feel the killer did a service for society, don’t seem to acknowledge the fact that the killer also killed a father of 4! Maybe the 4 children should be allowed to seek revenge on this killer, and those who condone his actions? I mean it’s ridiculous to ever believe that we will be free from such people, who would favor such actions upon people on the registry, despite the battles that are waged for our freedom. It will come down to an actual revolt being necessary, it’s the only thing dead brain American’s truly understand.

My two cents worth. The question is, Why was someone convicted / accused of a sex crime put in the same cell with someone convicted/accused of murder? Was this done on purpose?
This to me is like putting a cat in the same cage with a Rottweiler. Seems awful suspicious to me. And of course the guy is pretty much doing life so he will probably enjoying going to trial as that gets him a ride to the court house and a look at the scenery along the way.

Reading the comments section of that article shows the dehumanizing effect it has on the readers who was rooting for the convicted murderer of killing his cellmate because the writer labeled him a “child rapist”. Imagine how different the comments would’ve been if that label was left out…
I disagree with you. Browse the comments of any other article with this subject across facebook or a news site and you’ll see the comments are exactly the same. There are probably hundreds of comments posted every minute on FB cheering on or wishing for the death of RSOs. This is the mind of the average american. This is why will never make progress, despite dedicated generous and skilled attorneys on our side. Hate beats empathy in the sick, twisted American psyche. There is no stopping the tide of hate. The question is, what are you going to do about it?
I wasn’t aware I was suppose to do anything about it other than living a decent life and let others see that I am not the label society has put upon me.

EVERYONE should get involved. If life is good for you and your happy and content then why are you here. In this issue, it is comfortable to sit back and watch what others are doing to help YOU. Not preaching but being real. With 917,000 men, women, teens, and children citizens required to register and approximately 2.5 million family members we should be a bit further down the road.

As for me I have been actively participating with ACSOL for years (since I’m from CA) and donating what little money I have to the cause in the hopes of eradicating the Registry. I write letters to Sacramento at lawmakers in protest to whatever bills are pushed through that will further oppress us.
To be honest I think this conversation has strayed waaaaaay off course from the topic at hand because my original comment was an observation about the public’s vindictive response to a murdered inmate…

ALL registrants must strive to do this. If you want any hope of seeing positive change, you must first be an ambassador and set a good example. If instead you declare America to be sick and twisted and call for armed insurrection or whatnot, then you are not helping yourself or the movement.

To add to Vicki’s observation— on almost any given day, day a state legislator somewhere has imagined a new way to crack down on registered sex offenders and their families. We rely on state advocacy organizations and their legislative committees to stay one step ahead of their proposed legislation. But that takes a tremendous amount of volunteer work, as our legislative committee volunteer(s) can attest. So this would be a good area for more of us to get involved.

Another way to get involved would be to educate the masses by changing the terms we use (i.e. person-first) and get rid of the derogatory words. Terms like retarded are no longer part of our language and the ‘n’ word has gone by the wayside.

Bill, that’s what this guy is doing and he got murdered. It does not matter if you are good person, rehabilitated, care for your neighbors, etc. It does not matter how hard we advocate using civil means. Judges are only interested in getting reelected by appeasing the American public represented by the commentors on that article. As for what I’m going to do about it, I’d gladly say but FAC would edit it out so there is no point in trying.

The American public does do not have any empathy or respect for human rights. They are only controlled by fear, masterfully by police and politicians. Right now we are weak. We write brilliant motions to judges with no integrity to be heard in kangaroo courts. I’ve been following this issue long enough to know that. We need to make them fear us too – fear the retribution of a million “monsters” they created. Even if it doesent work, we at least get revenge, which is realistically the best to hope for.
Yeah well we witnessed those kind s of acts unfold when Watchmen Wolverine attempted to kidnap the governor of Michigan and when angry rioters stormed the Capitol earlier this year. No KLM spreading fear for RSO’s is a path of failure. Changing the narrative is key in turning the tide. I know that’s harder work but consider this: day by day more prominent people are being labeled as RSO’s like politicians such as Anthony Weiner and there will be a time when this country will hit a critical threshold when a record number of RSO’s will become to big to ignore that we have a systemic problem with our justice system and those former politicians will begin to speak up is when the tide begins to turn.
My sis-in-law has to register. I’d like to know what I can do to change things. She has 3 young children, her conviction was for a 17 year old. Only evidence was his word. This RSO stuff is over the top. We are scared to death she will get violated again and have to go to prison. What can I do?

The first thing you have to do is look after your sister in law. Fortunately, you are right around the corner from the Georgia line. Someone posted here that Georgia removes some people from the registry. The Georgia statute is 42-1-19. Read the statute and contact an attorney in Georgia. Your sister in law can do a lot more if you can get her off of the registry.
Also, check into Michigan. Once Does II becomes final, everyone whose offense date precedes 2012 will either be removed from the registry or receive a date certain for removal in Michigan.
Get meetings going. Reach out to Escambia County because they have a larger population.
