Department of Homeland Security said they were “investigating sex offenders”.
They were “investigating sex offenders”. That was the excuse DHS agents gave for pulling a U.S. Citizen out of his home wearing only his boxer shorts and Crocs. Wrapped in a blanket in 12 degree weather, a 56 year old naturalized U.S. citizen from Laos was pulled from his house and taken into DHS custody to be fingerprinted and photographed.
After pictures of the man being detained spread on social media to the protest of witnesses in Minnesota, DHS excused the conduct by claiming they were investigating two sex offenders who lived at that address.
“The only individuals residing at the home are Mr. Thao, his adult son, his daughter-in-law, and his young grandson. The family does not know the individuals referenced in DHS’s statement,” the family said.
Well I guess that excuses it, right? Get caught mistreating people, just claim they were sex offenders and that makes it all right.

When government is allowed to break the law a little expect government will always break the law a lot. It can also be expected the government will always push as far as it can until it is resisted then it will only restore that which it must..
If Im off target here, I apologize. DHS claims that there were two registrants living at that address. Why is ICE going after registrants? It’s my understanding that is not within their jurisdiction. Applying my experiences here, two registrants would likely be known to local and state leo. Wouldn’t their due diligence have identified whether or not that address was accurate? I would also think that an “illegal” immigrant who is a registrant would already have been detained. I understand that there are instances, loopholes so to speak, but still.
Claims are one things, but in actuality they’re not looking for PFRs in this situation despite their ruse to say they were.
I guess we are now scape goats for any mistakes, miss-steps, or “oops”. “Oh, sorry, we thought there were sex offenders hiding in your closets, basements and attics. What next, they saw bigfoot in the people’s back yard?
These raids already killed a lady who was just driving away from law enforcement as she was trying to pass by. An officer stepped in front of her car and the officer shot and killed her. A U.S citizen just trying to leave the area after protests got out of hand. They had her damn license plate, they could have caught her later and given her a ticket.
Back in the day I respected law enforcement, these days they have lost their minds. Not all cops act like that though and many have quit or retired due to so many officers breaking the law and getting away with it. (Do as I say, not as I do).
He and his parents leave human rights abuses by the govt only to be years later abused by the new govt fifty years later.
Sounds like we have advanced notice of their next target. Stop using fingerprint and face recognition for your phone. Use at least a 12 character alphanumeric code. If you’re confronted, shut your phone down completely first thing. Then evoke your right to remain silent and do not consent. Make sure you remain silent after evoking your right to do so.
Invoke 5A AND ask for an atty
Yeah. The first question I’d ask any policeman if I were detained is, “Am I free to leave.” If the answer is yes, leave. If the answer is no, then inform them that they are performing a “non-consensual custodial interrogation,” and demand a lawyer. I’m not certain but I think Miranda applies the moment you are in custody, i.e. if you are not free to leave.
