Tesla and SpaceX chief executive Elon Musk apologized Wednesday to a British diver who was involved in the Thai cave rescue for calling him “pedo guy.”
Musk lashed out at Vern Unsworth on Twitter on Saturday after Unsworth criticized a mini-submarine sent by Musk to help assist in the rescue of the 12 boys and their coach who were trapped in a flooded cave in northern Thailand for more than two weeks. Tesla shares fell following Musk’s attack. Unsworth said he was considering taking legal action against Musk.
It has been my observation that those who call others “pedos” are in fact themselves “pedos”.
It is not a typical insult at all.
Does he realize that this man is risking his own life to try to help rescue those kids? To be honest, Vern Unsworth did speak a little strangely on a news report, but that’s not unusual for someone who is not used to being on camera. Too many people tweet without thinking. The mini-sub was not suitable for that situation, and Musk mistakenly took it personally. He apologized, and everyone should just move on. Thankfully, the kids were all rescued, but we should remember that a Thai navy SEAL (Saman Kunan) did die during the rescue. His story is more important than any Elon Musk crap.
Sue the asshole! Too many privilege butt hoes like him has to be in the Limelight! It sounds like it could be taken as a threat. Now wouldn’t they try to get your Facebook or Twitter account close if it was you making that claim, probably so!
Yup so true on this topic
Elon made a mistake. Calling someone a “pedo” is somehow treated different than calling someone a motheruk*r or some other derogatory term. I don’t think a lawsuit is warranted here. A public apology should be enough. The thing that really bothers me about this is that too many people are quick to dismiss Elon based on calling someone a word when he’s done so much good for this country.
Elon is a humanitarian hero and this cannot be ignored. Even if he committed murder at this point, his work will have a very positive impact on society but that doesn’t mean he shouldn’t be held accountable for the hypothetical crime. We are the very people on a public shame list with virtually no way to to get society to recognize that we make mistakes and we should be offered a second chance. Yet, people like you Tom are quick to Judge the man based on a word directed at a person.
The other problem I have is that people call eachother “pedo” all the time in society but we never hear about it. Name calling is just part of what we experience in life. Drive a car? You probably said a few choice words along with a gesture to someone who cut you off or visa versa.
If I received just 1 penny for every I was called a name, I would have a substantial amount of money.
Just because Elon has money doesn’t mean someone should try to hit him in the wallet for what he’s done. It’s likely he said it in the heat of the moment. I ask that you cut the man some slack. Sometimes you just have to let others handle things between themselves. Sadly Elon uses to stay directly and conveniently connected to members of the general public. Sometimes he reveals that is is not a superhuman, but rather a normal human who makes human-like mistakes just like you and me.
I want to see this hatchet buried as it does not good for anyone involved. The Thai boys and the coach have been rescued. One hero lost his life after coming back after delivering oxygen to the boys and now Elon’s team has a new rescue device that can be used in similar situations despite not being used in this rescue. This can save lives later. Additionally, Elon has pledged to bring clean water to Flint, MI and I believe he and his team will do so.
I really appreciate Elon and his team of engineers for what they contribute to society. Calling one person a name isn’t anywhere near enough to condemn him into obscurity. Sadly, this is what society now does to people and it really has nothing to do with calling someone a “pedo”. It has everything to do with public shaming and how accepted of a punishment this has become.
There are a lot of people that contribute to society, and have far less money and behind the scenes. The media contributes and creates that hero. Look around your community and you will see there are many blessing others without that limelight.
