Even the Accused Killer Gets More Sympathy
A fundraising campaign for a teenager accused of murdering a 56-year-old registrant was recently shut down by GoFundMe. The campaign had raised thousands of dollars from supporters who viewed the accused as hero.
It says a lot about our society when an individual charged with killing someone was able to attract widespread public sympathy, financial support, and a community willing to rally to his defense. Yet when people on the sex offender registry seek help rebuilding their lives, finding housing or a job, they are met with hostility, public shaming, and demands that they be permanently excluded from society. Where is the sympathy for the murder victim or his family?
Shameful!

There has been a palpable worsening of the social and political environment we find our selves in here in Florida. I am done pretending that I am safe and things will ever be normal here. I wish I had something positive or hopeful to say but I do not.
Glad GoFundMe had the presence of mind in deleting the account. No one should benefit off the death of someone monetarily or by any other means.
Disgraceful!
I am so happy that GoFundMe shut them down. Great decision on their part.
This is been what I’ve been seeing. The praise to hurt or kill registrants has increased. The media is not helping either.
Not one person bothered to donate a penny, for all we know, right?
Or maybe a few family friends pitched in.
Either way, did GoFundMe do the right thing? I believe they did.
Yes, I am happy that it was shut down! Thank you for GoFundMe for doing what is right!
GoFundMe had the guts to shut it down, so that is a step in the right direction.
2 wrongs don’t make right.
Thank you for viewing this in a more positive light.
