Ex-Richland County deputy accused of stealing money from sex offenders

[FAC NOTE: This isn’t the first LEO that was arrested for stealing money from registrants]

A former deputy with the Richland County (SC) Sheriff’s Department was arrested after allegedly stealing money from sex offenders.

RCSD said 31-year-old Jessica Way was arrested Monday and charged with petit larceny. The department said the charge was linked to an internal audit from July 16 that showed a $410 cash discrepancy from the sex offender registry receipts. The audit information was then given to the sheriff’s department’s criminal investigations division to open a case. According to authorities, the investigation found Way allegedly stole money from sex offenders in small amounts as they came to register. RCSD said Way was terminated on July 24 and confessed when questioned about the crimes. The department said she was employed there for just under four years in the sex offender registry unit. Records show Way was booked at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center before posting a $2,125 bond on Monday.

Right? I save up aluminum cans to cash in just to pay for some of my medications. Many on the registry either cannot work either because they are disabled, retired, or cannot find a job because it is super hard to get a job being on the registry. They hold us down, then expect us to pay a fee? Is there no end to what they can do to us? And those who do work, some of them get lower pay.
The oppression of those who are no longer on paperwork is just maddening. Having to register and follow pages of rules, having to spend a day a few times a year to stand in line with other registered persons and feeling depressed and embarrassed when law enforcement comes to our doors numerous times a year. And of course, the nosey neighbors or Karens come over to ask why cops were at your house, and “What did you do this time” gets really old.

I’m 50 years old and get a honorably discharged military retirement. To supplement, I have to work a hard labor job because no one will hire me due to being a PFR. I work as a Mover even on extremely hot Florida days. Sometime carrying furniture and boxes to 3rd story apartments (which I have done 2 times this week). I riske getting hurt and not being able to work everyday. But I have no choice. It’s either hard labor or nothing else. I spent 20+ years in the military and have 2 college degrees from reputable colleges and can’t get nothing but hard labor jobs due to having to register. Basically the state of Florida has made my life into a Russian gulag where you work hard labor until you can’t do it no more.

Cops are just as criminal as anyone else. They just usually get away with it using their authority and their blue code of protecting each other.

Not only is that one of the lowest lows, to steal from registered citizens, but it’s extremely dumb to think that they would get away with it. Hello, it’s the sheriff’s office!

Well thank God they did something about it and didn’t just sweep it under the rug. I saw a lot of cover ups when I was on the force but if you snitched, things would not go good for your future.
