Not everyone supports johns registries, and a variety of groups say prostitution and human trafficking are very different crimes and should not be confused. They say prostitution is consensual and voluntary, and human trafficking is not.
Most people arrested in prostitution operations are lonely men who went to a massage parlor or hired an escort from an online site, says the Florida Action Committee, a nonprofit that “advocates for sex offense laws based on empirical evidence and best practices instead of fear and myth.”
The prostitutes in these exchanges were very willing participants, and a johns registry will make it hard for the people on the list to maintain jobs, which will only compound the shame and difficulty their families are already experiencing, the group said.
Florida’s database for johns, the first of its kind in the nation, will become a bloated, ineffective mess, much like the sex offender registry, the action committee said.
With the new list of potential customers from the John registry the porn business can grow! These men, now alienated from co-workers and family and church will turn to their old friend, porn! The registry can be a great tool for porn sites to reach out to these men. With the increased demand for porn, these men, who no longer can support their family, can send their daughters out to become webcam models or porn stars.
The difference between the Johns registry and the SOR is ,When people hear the Johns registry ,there first thought would be whose John, and dismiss it. When they hear the SOR they immediately think of the worst sexual crime they can think of of forceable rape And pedophiles that will never change. We must first change the designation to change the public image.
I have done bodyrubs for 5 1/2 years and a lot of guys asked me via text if it was full service. Now it’s crickets. Nobody knows about this. And it was okay for at least since 2015 when I moved here. So the real question is, is that’s how it’s gonna be why isn’t it on the news instead of ruining many guys lives. Pulling the wool over someone’s eyes isn’t the right answer. I am not a hooker and I have never done full service but I think this should be made aware to the public.
Chrissy I think you better off going to another state like here Az or CO. That state is crazy. I have not had any problems in this state at all. I been here 9 yrs. I do what needs to be done and never been arrested until I lived in fla. I been in and out of jail and prison while living in that state Probation than jail/or prison,then bull$hit Post Release probation.Finally I woke up and asked GOD for help to break the cycle… Been clean from drugs for 15 years.I try to stay to myself and avoid people in general. All I saying a person needs to find something to help them through this.
While I do not support prostitution neither do I support the start of another registry. We have already seen how ineffective a registry can be and the kind of unintended consequences that can result. Every case should be handled by the courts on its own merits and let the court records be all that is maintained. The country needs to get out of the ‘registry business’. We got along well long before the registry came into being.
I live in a small rural area of PA. The local news has been running stories about human trafficking and how prevalent it is in the area. These women who are directors of the local drug and alcohol rehab, and family services are saying it’s an epidemic. Children are being sold into sex slavery by their parents…etc. I don’t know if I believe this or not? I have lived in the area for a long time, and know quite a lot of people. I have never heard anyone complaining about people they know, or loved ones that got caught up in the human trafficking/sex slave trade? I think that it’s a lot of pumped up statistics, and misinformation to get more support for family services, and law enforcement. The local police will now have to hire 2 more detectives to handle all the human trafficking going on around here. Maybe I’m way out of touch?

Question. How much per year do these directors make and who pays them?
Find the answer to that and you answer your own question as to being out of touch or is this hype financially/politically motivated.

I agree you here all this about sex trafficking . Like where dude. There is a lot more of human trafficking in Chinese restaurants they bring young people here as students and force them to work in the restaurants for years to pay them back for bringing them here. If they say anything they get sent back. So they work for nothing. It doesn’t have anything to do with sex so I guess that makes it all right. Is sex the only thing people can think about.
I guess that is the only thing that makes news.

Your great example is human labor trafficking, something that the news, unfortunately, never picks up. Although it is still a human rights violation, law enforcement (especially in rural areas) rarely prosecutes labor trafficking cases.
While there be a little of what you’re referencing, I seriously doubt that it’s on the level that those women are raising the alarm for. It’s all about raising funds for their cause. They need money for drug and alcohol, but as those concerns don’t draw the attention needed to gain those funds, I truly believe that they are over emphasizing the trafficking deal to gain those funds.
I’m still waiting for the DUI registry. Oh yeah, a good many ‘descent folk are alcoholics. Can’t shame the politicians, court officials, LEO’S. They’re upstanding citizens…
I say go for it, as the more on the registry, the more they will realize just how punitive it really is. After all, it has shown some changes and reevaluating to some regards in certain states.
Looks as if some want to make the criminal system totally a shame based punishment arrangement. That way they can break up families cause more single parent kids cause more homelessness increases welfare recipients, among other collateral damage consequences.
Where a couple could maybe work out there problems in a private environment now everyone will know and be involved in there personal problems, forcing them to end the marriage because of public scorn .
These people that come up with these asinine ideas need to go stick there heads back in the sand where it’s obviously been there whole life.

Dayton government officials just gave human traffickers a great new tool for finding customers! Johns can use their status on the john registry to assure prostitutes that they are regular customers and not police officers. Johns may start carrying around proof of being on the john registry to better negotiate sex contracts. In addition, the registry makes a great mailing list for producers of pornography. With these powerful new tools for pimps, you can count on the next shipment of sex workers from overseas will make their way to Dayton!
It also makes it difficult to catch the sex traffickers because it takes the focus off of them, which is the whole point of these laws. They don’t care that these laws don’t work. They know they don’t work. All they care about is being able to fool people with these laws for as long as they can, until they can come up with the next plan to keep the sex trafficking business protected, because many people make so much money off of that. The most dangerous sex predators and sex traffickers are paying off law enforcement and government officials to keep them protected and/or they are working in these positions, to keep themselves protected and keep everybody fooled.
Great idea!! I love it!! Blame the & shame them! Make it so they can’t get a job or rent an apartment, etc. – the same “not punishments” that all of us on the Registry suffer. The more registries the better! Because after everyone has suffered the results of something they’ve done and then being brutally broadcast all over the internet as a result, then eventually we’ll have enough public outrage to get rid of ALL registries.

That won’t last. In a few years after several rounds of legislative changes it will be another lifetime registry.
After 5 years not only will names be taken off the registry, but all private websites will remove this information as well. Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg will work together on this project with Sundar Pichai. “Once the Illinois tollway is paid off in 1973, all tolls will be removed and they will become freeways”. “Read my lips. No new taxes!” Some people never learn!

Give them an inch and they will take a mile! I have no sympathy for people who vote to pass the sex offender registration laws. Little did they realize that in doing so the local, state and federal governments would expand these laws until everyone is on some form of registry.

Hi all. I recently had occasion to research this issue and was able to determine that, under federal law (SORNA), transportation of another in interstate commerce for the purpose of prostitution does not require registration (under SORNA) if the alleged “victim” is an adult, and there was no “coercion” by the accused person, and the accused person did not exercise “custodial authority” over the victim at the time the offense was committed. What you describe is the creation of a requirement wholly under state law, that is not required by SORNA. The Floridian action in this matter obviously gives the lie to any contention that registration laws of this sort are intended to “protect” anyone.
