FAC Members Speaking at Delegation Meetings

Many of our members have already spoken at a delegation meeting or will be soon speaking at one of the upcoming meetings.  Members are either reading one of our prepared speeches or writing their own.

A legislator has responded to one of our members who spoke on the lack of consideration in statute for people with a neurocognitive disease (dementia) at the time of their offense.  Because of the absence of such verbiage, dementia cannot be considered by probation or registration either.  The legislator will be trying to author a bill that would give courts the ability to consider dementia.

We were a relatively silent group of people a few years ago, except for a few members, but that has been changing, and we are beginning to be heard.  Now is not the time to go silent.

Emily Horowitz’ book From Rage to Reason is also being handed out to some of our legislators at these delegation meetings.

A list of the Florida legislative delegation meetings can be found here.  If you would like to read one of our prepared speeches, please contact us at [email protected].

You can use this link to listen to three of our speakers at the recent Miami/Dade delegation meeting.

Thank God for these brave women who speak for so many of us- who lack the courage to do so ourselves.
