FOIA lawsuit brought to determine why Ghislaine Maxwell was transferred to a camp
The Federal Bureau of Prisons’ policies and program statements require that any individual with the Public Safety Factor of “Sex Offender” can be housed in no less than a “Low” security level prison. So how is it that socialite Ghistlaine Maxwell was transferred to a camp (Minimum security level) last year, shortly after meeting with attorneys for President Trump. A reporter for Mother Jones wants to know why. He filed a Freedom of Information Act request for the records. And the reporter is not alone. In August, Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) sent a letter to William Marshall III, the BOP director, asking for the same information. But the BOP has thus far refused to provide it.
Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, a nonprofit that provides pro bono legal assistance to journalists, earlier this week filed a lawsuit in federal district court in Washington, DC, on behalf of the Center for Investigative Reporting (which publishes Mother Jones), to compel the BOP to provide the relevant records.

Um, I finished up my incarceration at Littleton Co 2017. A low security prison. Near the end I was offered camp at Oklahoma city transfer. I turned it down as I didn’t want to loose my hobby craft materials. I was subsequently offered halfway house in Las Vegas NV but I’ve heard way too many stories about Nevada to take that one. I was the head orderly and had it pretty good.
I know personally two other pfr’s that got camp. One at Houston and one at Los Angeles.
Maybe those camps are allowed due to their mostly indoor housing but the camp was available in 2017.
That can’t be correct— BOP has no camps at either of those two locations. Were you referring to halfway instead?
Michael, there’s no Camp in Oklahoma City transfer. The closest camp is in El Reno. Houston only has an FDC (Detention Center), which is hardly a camp. The nearest Camp to Houston is in Bryan, TX, which is for females only and is 100 miles from Houston. Los Angeles only has an MDC (Detention Center). The closest Camp to Los Angeles is Lompoc, which is 175 miles away. I think you must be mistaken.
Maybe the word I was looking for was (Work Cadre). Same thing. Or..
Maybe it was a program in 2017. IDK.
For almost 5 years, I was housed at a medium-low federal correctional facility that had a camp right next door. My “counselor” at the prison said I would never be moved to the camp because of my simple possession of CP conviction. He was right. The BOP policy statements prohibited me from being transferred, and would not even allow me to be sent to a half-way house six months prior to my release date. I was told, “we (the BOP) don’t give a (curse word) what your judge recommended.” So Maxwell’s transfer is purely policital…they want to keep her as comfortable as possible because she has all the goods on the powerful, ruling elite. IMHO.
