Hillsborough County to hear Comments on SORR – June 2nd

The Hillsborough County Commission will hear public comments on their proposed Sex Offender Residency Restriction on Thursday, June 2, 2016.

FAC will be organizing a group to attend the commission meeting and provide comments and educate the commissioners on the FACTS. Anyone interested in attending (and we encourage you to join us) should contact [email protected] to let us know you would like to participate.

Here are the official notes from the County:

The Board directed the County Attorney’s Office to draft language for a potential ordinance establishing stricter guidelines for newly registered sex offenders, similar to the Pasco County’s recently passed law that would bar sex offenders whose victims were younger than 16, from living within 2,500 feet of a child care facility, library, playground, park or a school in Hillsborough County. The Board directed staff to receive input from development, law enforcement, and the real estate community.
