Holy Cow! One day late for registration gets someone 4 years in prison.

A registrant from Hernando County got 4 years in prison for being one day late for registration!

The charges stem from a July 5, 2024, arrest for failure to comply with reporting requirements. According to the sheriff’s office, XXXX reported to the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office on July 5, 2024, for a required 30-day transient check-in. A review of the Florida Sexual Offender and Predator System showed his previous check-in had occurred on June 6, 2024. At his May 2024 check-in, Duhaime had been provided a copy of his reporting requirements, which stated he must complete his next transient check-in by June 5, 2024.

Detective G. Marcacci met XXXX in the front lobby registration room of the sheriff’s office. During the interview, XXXX acknowledged he was late for the June 5 check-in. By one day!!!

His offense occurred more than 20 years ago and he had one prior FTR in 2018. Note that since he’s homeless, he has to register every 30 days – that’s at least 100 registrations.

Didn’t fdle just say to the court in the ex post facto case that they don’t arrest someone for only being a day late? They they instead seek out that person and remind them to register? I think this case needs to be admitted into evidence in the ex post facto case to show the state is outright lying.

Well in Hernando county now. They charged me with FTR after living in colorado and traveling to flordia to buy an RV and registering it there. Was going to fly back to colorado to get my family for my son who lived with his mom fell on drugs. Well going back they arrested me for I forgot to report the purchase and registration of that vehicle. Have a Traumatic brain injury from my military experience and wasn’t trying to skirt anything. Take medication that also have side effects of memory loss. Of course first charge was from police trap and I ran out of money to fight it legally. So we shall see what hernado country fl does to a Obama era retired with combat injuries proven. Got a lawyer so fight is on. Took two months for the court to let me travel with GPS monitoring to the next county so I could see my VA doctors that was a mess with my lawyer. They dont care to much it seems. I have to close down my whole life in colorado which I was resident. So any help or insight helps

So, it took the deputy one month to see he was late by one day when he did not see it previously and only after it was admitted to? Really?! Some investigator he is! Lord knows what he could’ve done in the month of June to harm society before he showed up again! /sarc

Yet, this gent came in again on time as needed without issue and gets busted. As another commenter noted, it was more probably more than this that was taken into account at sentencing but his lengthy record to help him straighten out.

Unfortunately, that is ridiculous. Ridiculous. Sentence but power is the B have too much power with nobody to regulate them and shame on the judge, but given somebody that much time in prison goes to show you the state attorneys office is way too much power.
