Jacksonville (Duval County) announces closure of registration office on Fridays
For our members in Duval/Jacksonville. FAC has been informed that a notice has been posted in the Jacksonville registration office that effective October 5, 2026, they will be closed on Friday. Not only does this present a significant inconvenience (registration hours reduced by 20%), but it makes compliance with the law impossible in some cases.
Below is FAC’s response to this closure.

(a) At the time of initial registration, an offender shall pay a state registration fee in the amount of one hundred and twenty dollars ($120.00). Fees shall be submitted to the Sheriff’s office of the offender’s county of residence.
(b) Each time an offender is required to report updated information under the Act, he shall pay a state reporting fee of twenty-five dollars ($25.00).
(c) County registration fees collected for initial registration and county fees collected for updating offender information shall be separate from and in addition to all state registration fees.
(d) No fee shall be charged to an offender during the time in which he is in the custody of the Department, a local jail or a public or private agency pursuant to a court order during the period in which the offender is in custody. Once such custody has terminated, the offender shall be charged the initial state registration fee in the amount of one hundred and twenty dollars ($120.00), along with the attendant county registration fee.
(e) If an offender is an unemancipated juvenile, all fees due and owing under this section shall be the responsibility of the juvenile’s parent or guardian having legal custody.
(f) On a monthly basis each county Sheriff’s office shall remit to the Division all fees collected for the previous month, along with a statement indicating the offender from whom the fees were collected. Said fees shall be remitted to the Division by means of a check or an electronic payment.

In Wyoming, an indigent sex offender can apply for a fee waiver to avoid paying registration costs. However, homelessness does not excuse registration requirements. Offenders must register a valid, in-person address (such as a local shelter or by designating a transient status with the sheriff); failure to register is a felony.Fee Waivers for IndigenceWyoming state law dictates fees up to $120 for initial registration and $25 for updates. If an offender cannot afford these, they can apply for a determination of indigency. If approved, the fees are waived. Willful failure to pay fees without an approved indigency waiver is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 6 months in jail and a $750 fine.Requirements for Homeless OffendersHomeless or transient sex offenders are still legally required to register in Wyoming.Designation: If an offender does not have a permanent residence, they must declare themselves transient/homeless and provide the local county sheriff with detailed information regarding where they habitually live, sleep, or stay.Deadlines: Registrants must update their status with the local county sheriff within 3 business days of a change or upon entering a new jurisdiction.Consequences: Knowingly failing to register or keep address information updated is a felony in Wyoming, carrying penalties of up to 5 years in prison and a $1,000 fine for the first offense.
Thankfully Highlands county has it so one can go to the jail 24/7 as needed when the reg office is closed, That office is open on Tuesdays only. Also, have found that possible to use the FDLE site as well,
