Jury seated in trial of man accused of targeting registered sex offenders
An Erath County jury of seven men and five women were seated on Monday in the trial of Charles Austin Broyles, a suspect unofficially dubbed the “vigilante shooter.”
Broyles is being tried for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with shooting a registered sex offender in the face in December 2023.
According to the arrest affidavit, Broyles was targeting registered sex offenders living in Erath County, accessing the list of names and addresses from the public sex offender website.

Yes Mr. Broyles is deaf. Doesn’t change what he did. Broyles was lucky that his charges weren’t premeditated attemptive murder. Doesn’t change that he had a lengthy arrest record beforehand. Amongst his previous charges were gun charges. I’m sorry for most people who have to spend lengthy time in prison. The system is not designed to help people correct the issues that led to incarceration.
He deserves to serve every single day of his 20 years
Man is deaf
He can read his twenty-year sentence in his prison cell

Statistics show otherwise that he’ll commit another sex crime. Recidivism rates drop with time. Charles austin Broyles on the other hand, is much more likely to reoffend.

By the time Broyles is out, other one will be in.
Mr. D
I’d win that wager. Be better than hitting the Trifecta at the Belmont yesterday.

History always repeats

I don’t follow statistics unfortunately.
Mr. D
Broyles has a significant criminal record, including weapons charges. He stalked three different registrants. He is a threat to the community regardless of the fact that the three residences he went to housed registrants.
Bws…It’s ok, he is deaf
E
I saw that. What is your point?

I still cannot believe F.A.C is allowing the downfall of this site. That is the reason these people are coming on here, to cause division, having us all leave, then F.A.C closing down when no one contributes their hard earned money.
I still like the updates for us (good or bad) but the divisions in here being allowed are going to cause a major tip of the scale here soon, and not in a good way. As they say in the Navy, the ship has sailed.

FAC is doing phenomenal job, their being fair to accommondate both sides of the isle. You may disagree with some comments, but than agai some one disagree with yours. You don’t have read them,as we French say Ceis’t la vie.
All things are fine here. Our mission is to put the information out there for the world to read and hopefully learn something. Registrants already know the truth because they are living it. We needed to spread the information to those who don’t. That’s all we are doing. If you organize a protest and nobody comes out to hear your message, you don’t achieve anything.

Your statement is MILLION DOLLARS worth..
👏 bravo
He can seek Appeals from this 20-year sentence, which he will. I’m hoping he gets out while he appeals this sentence.
Mr d
Poor man is blind, has to appeal asap
You’re right he can appeal. I personally hope he spends the full twenty in there. 2 wrongs don’t make a right. But…… If he is released I hope he runs across one of the registrants out there who dgaf and carry as well.
Tim
I thought law prohibits felons to carry?
E
5 year mandatory( just like that)
The judge sentenced Charles Austin Broyles to twenty years.
AMEN!
Finally, some justice. I have seen many of those attacks having a hung jury, or the person getting a year of probation. If that person would have just left the offender alone, BOTH of them would be home with their families right now. (The article doesn’t say if the registered person died from the gun shot.)
ch
he is alive
The victim survived. He testified against Broyles. The article said that the victim still suffered from the wound Broyles inflicted
Well glad he is alive but wonder how messed up he is now both mentally and physically. Poor guy may never leave the house again.
Cherokee
He is basket case I bet, hope he won’t re-offend
D
History repeats itself…he’ll do it again100%

100% bad information. I made a mistake almost 40 years ago. Nothing before that and nothing since. If someone is sick and cannot control themselves, they are not going to go 40 years without being re-arrested.
Some do re-offend but we cannot paint a broad brush on every person who makes a stupid mistake. We are all already on the offender registry for life so what more do you want from us?
Statistics show those who committed a sex crime and got caught have some of the lowest re-offend rate in the nation. Anyone who does re-offend, I also do not feel sorry for them because if they didn’t learn their lesson the first time, you might not get a second chance to get out of prison.

It may take 40 years,it may take 4 month. Man is not stable
Save poor men’s soul
