Lee Sheriff charges Fox4 nearly $200k for sex offender records

Not sure what’s more shocking here; Fox4’s willingness to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to shame sex offenders for ratings – or the fact that it’ll take the Lee County Sheriff’s office years to compile records and data it should have at hand.

Visiting each registered citizen every month is plain harassment!

These same records are readily available through DOC as well FDLE. LEE may want media reports from Channel 4 in which they can charge for the videotape. The use of these records should be investigated and scrutinized! Thanks fot the heads up

Thanks! Incredible less to say… State of Florida DOC records on all are public information per The Sunshine Act, FDLE RSO Website maintains all current information databased by DOC. So if anyone wants info on a RSO in Lee County then the FDLE Website will have that info.If info is not current or correct the public can contact the FDLE sex offender hotline or if Registrant sees incorrect into they can request the change through FDLE as well. LEE County PD seems to have a disconnect from the DOC AND FDLE in which information in Free to browse. The TV Station should be investigating this as a case of complete ignorance to the system FDLE has been using since 1997 when Megan’s Law went into effect. As far as checking on each offender in Lee County every month, this is not necessary as State Law requires each Offender to appear in person for Registration and Re-Reg either every 2 times a year for lower tierred crimes or each month for Predators. Sex Offender Patrols by Lee County Cops is a waste of time. Non Compliance issues should be handled by FDLE since they maintain State Records of all Registrants.
