Someone in my family told me once the United States will never tolerate mob justice (case in point: Ahmaud Arbery). The McMichaels and William Roddy Bryan are serving life sentences w/o parole in Georgia thanks in part to the jury finding them guilty. Yet, Ahmaud Arbery wasn’t a registered citizen. Had this been the case I would’ve liked that jury polled and asked if the status of the victim being a registered person swayed their verdict one way or the other. Personally, I believe the jury would’ve found the defendants guilty but recommended lesser time in prison than life w/o parole.
Registrants have never, do not now, or will ever find any empathy or sympathy at the seat of government…never! While I hold the same agreement with public safety I part ways now and every time with continual, unending, unyielding retribution.
Writing the state’s attorney for Brevard County may come to nothing but doing nothing or saying nothing doesn’t help, either. At least the ASA is not backing down in their prosecution of Lucas Jones due to career ambition, state’s attorneys office reputation, or public sentiment. Asking for the death penalty when it’s warranted on merits of the case is acceptable, just, and fair. At the very least Lucas is looking at lifetime incarceration w/o parole.
He was arraigned on capital murder charges. FAC and other Florida registrants need to write the state’s attorneys office for Brevard County requesting the state seek the death penalty.
More than this, which is a good idea, but ask the Guvnah, the LtGov, the AG, the Book family, and their elected FLA state Reps/Sens in Tally and WDC if this acceptable behavior by a Floridian as well as the misuse of the registry. Chances are no one will touch it with what the real answer is…No. I say campaign this question to these folks en masse to get some answers from them on the reality of the situation. These folks have pushed and pushed this for ages now, so they need to answer for it. Get it on video when the question is asked, get it sent in via writing, force this upon them to answer. If one or more answers about this not being right, then changes may be able to happen, especially when used in court.
Wonder if grotesque serial murder in this case will get close to the lifetime sentence of someone convicted of a simple statutory crime? I doubt it. Americas laws have such a disproportionate reality..
The minimum sentence for this charge, if convicted, is life imprisonment without eligibility for parole.
