Member Submission: A cautionary tale.

I am charged with the following violations; 2 for failure to report and 2 for Providing false information.
This first issue has to do with me co-signing an auto loan with my son.
He is a co-owner and he is the only driver and it resides at his home address.
It has NEVER been at my home over night, and I have never driven it. The registration is in my name (oops) and his name as is the title. Of course I would have registered it with SO Registry, but I thought only vehicles that were at my residence or that I drove were necessary to register. Our current vehicle, which is registered was issued a new tag by the state, as they do every 10 years I believe, it was replaced on or about 4/5/2026 after my registration with SO registry at the beginning of March 2026. I failed to register the TAG change (duh) within 48 hours.
The deputy that arrested me stated that my daughter’s truck is registered at our home address but it is actually registered at a PO Box. I had previously registered the truck with SO registration when she was leaving it parked at our address and I was able to drive it. Once she moved to a different company, she no longer parked the truck here, so I deleted it from SO registration. He said they didn’t “ding” me for this issue.
So the bottom line is, I failed to register the Auto Loan co-sign within 48 hours (Failure to Report) and didn’t report it when I registered in September and March (Providing False Information) twice. And failure to report the tag change within 48 hours (Failure to Report).
My suggestion is to FREQUENTLY review the SO requirements to hopefully not get caught up in this TRAP. So 4 felonies… Arrested and spent 2.5 days in jail and 12,500 bond. Now I wait for trial…

Same situation with someone I know. You do what sheriff tells you to do, and then arrested. It is a MONEY MAKING BUSINESS FOR ALL $14,000 bond, $7500 for lawyer and 2 days jail and it’s not over yet. Charge of wrong phone number, did not register and address incorrect. All false. Yes this is of course FLORIDA

Do you save your registration papers? I know a lot of guys who throw them in the trash as soon as they step out of the sheriff’s office. I keep ALL of mine all the way back until they started this darn thing, which means I have an huge box full of registration papers.
If they ever try and say I missed something, I will challenge them with my bazillion registration papers.

Didn’t the Jews in the holocaust have to show papers upon request? Not at all saying we went through what they did, but it’s our burden we carry being on the registry, having to constantly being forced to prove we didn’t do this or we DID do that. And at every turn, they come up with more restrictions on what we can do and where we can go. It is basically a trap, and they damn well know it.

Registants must approach each day with a deliberate plan. A seemingly unimportant decision for our greater society can be catastrophic for those living this nightmare. The topic of a vehicle license plate is one of the go-to gottcha traps. A ridiculous law, one meant to severely interrupt a person’s life.

NEVER purchase a vehicle/vessel on Friday or any holiday that includes a weekend; if you do not use the online portal, or if the registration offices will be closed after the purchase.

So, Mother, may I report an update within 48 hours?

Did a temporary plate get issued for purchase? Report it and the purchase on time, trip one.
If the temporary plate expires before the permanent plate is issued, park the vehicle.
Was a temporary replacement plate issued? Trip two.
When the permanent plate is issued, report it on time, possibly trip three.

Plan your purchase and avoid receiving a temporary or permanent plate that does not comply with the 48-hour law when an in-person update is made.

Does the online portal pose any specific risks, or have you heard of an arrest due to a typo?

Use the Cyber Comminications System to prevent these from becoming problems.

Make sure your court order is marked by the Judge that you already been through the treatment program. If not marked, when you go to probation there is no common sense or reasoning there. They will want to run you like first time offender and make you go through all that again. I had to repetition the court to get a judgment signed. Even at that the Judge was not understanding why and had to call a meeting with the prosecutor and the head of probation. Just a warning to try and save some aggravation. This may sound stupid, but I am talking from experience.
