Another sex sting, this time it looks like Georgia is getting in on the Federal Govt “goodies.” (millions in grant $$). A few disturbing things to notice here. Just look at how many agencies were in on this thing! Good Lord!! 18 different agencies??!! One even from Atlanta, and Jasper County (which is just across the border in SC). And guess who else?? Good old Sheriff Elmer Fudd, I mean, Grady Judd from POLK COUNTY, Fla. Mr. King of the Sting himself. The Feds must giving out LOTS of goodies for this sting for so many to be involved. The other disturbing thing is the mentioning of polygraphing the suspects (who are REALLY THE VICTIMS). If it can’t be admissible in court, then why are they even doing it??? Was a lawyer present?? If I was them, I wouldn’t even have said a word, I would’ve lawyered up as they say. Just insane. It’s nothing more than an out of control government trying to control our lives more and more. It has NOTHING to do with keeping children safe. The Feds fund Planned Parenthood for God sake. The same entity that was exposed for taking aborted fetuses, cutting them up, and selling them. I would swear that at one time I read that if a person is caught in a sting they do not have to register on the public list in FL – am I crazy? lol

I have a friend that has a lot of info about some of these stings – he finds in most of these that over half of the people arrested get the cases thrown out. If I understand correctly to conduct on of these you have to follow specific guidelines and rules – and many of the police departments do not follow the correct guidelines. Also, there are some laws that FL made that specifically address some one caught in one of these stings and one of them I thought was no registry? May it is date specific?
You are right. They did create laws that address people caught in these stings. They actually complement the stings! Like the specific charge of using a computer to solicit, lure, or entice a child (we were the ones seduced and solicited!). And traveling to meet a minor. They made a lot of these laws in 08-09 when they really started doing these stings in Florida. Under the watchful eye of good ole Charlie Crist. So yeah, they made laws alright, to justify and complement the stings they knew they were getting ready to do for going on 8 years straight now. The Federal money is just rolling in here!!
Once again – no victim at all except these poor folks caught up in this. And just a side note – that Planned Parenthood stuff was a “smoke and mirrors” campaign to discredit Planned Parenthood and then of course legal abortions – as hard as they have tried those allegations were unfounded …- just like so many things the say and do about RSOs

Sorry, one more submission. Really good blog from this lawyer down in South FL about current sex sting. Check his website out. He knows what the real deal is. My thing is though, if educated people know that the police are engaging in unethical tactics, why isn’t it being challenge as a whole, and every man and woman arrested in stings nationwide exonerated?? It is my understanding (and if I’m wrong, please let me know) that the state of Florida got rid of the entrapment laws and other laws that allow them to engage in these unethical stings without any possible retaliation. If it is true, then Florida is running like a police state.
I heard the same thing. And the more I argued with MY OWN LAWYER about this, the more I thought HE was the prosecutor in my case!! Every angle of argument that I brought, was shut down by my lawyer. And you’re absolutely right. Florida IS a POLICE STATE. Just take a moment and go on FLDOC’s website and look at where the prisons are located. Right in the middle of nowhere in these redneck po dunk counties where everyone in that county works for the prison because they’re not qualified to work anywhere else. I was at Mayo. And by far Lafayette Co.’s biggest employer was the prison. Same way in places like Lake Butler, Columbia, Baker, Graceville, Raiford, etc…Plus, a fellow inmate of mine who was down 40 years told me that Florida gets 1$ per inmate per day, from the canteen companies which is now, Trinity. FL has over 100,000 inmates, so you do the math and they get that much money from the canteen companies per day. Amazing. It’s all an industry and job provider for a lot of people in this state.
Also, just found an excellent article explaining and exposing the stings and how they work. Exact same case in my example. I was NOT looking for minors, but adults on craigslist and just got duped and lured. But as you can see, they explain how there’s millions of dollars in grant money given to these “task forces”. So once again, this has NOTHING to do with safety of children but they spin in that way. It is all FINANCIALLY AND POLITICALLY motivated and the public is dumb enough to believe every word they say just because they wear a uniform. “I’m here from the government and I’m here to help!” OK, you keep right on believing that. There was a series by Noah Pransky that exposed this. Came out about a year ago.
It’s a huge, huge, HUGE scam.
People reach out to an adult on an ADULT personals site, such as Craigslist. The COP steers the email exchanges to something sexual. Once they have the target writing something explicit or sending an image to who they think is an adult, the COP introduces a fictitious minor in a benign way (ie: “I hope you don’t mind, but I have a 14 year old daughter”). Why would they mind if the hot 35 year old woman that’s begging to bang them happens to be a mother? Right?
Well… the Sheriff’s office conducting the sting spins the entire story around and using conversations they have on hand, make it seem as though this guy went onto Craigslist trolling for kids and was having this conversation about kid, when the poor schmuck believed some hot MILF was actually into them. By the time they make it to Court they’ve lost their jobs and been plastered on the local news. Now they don’t have the $50,000 for an attorney and the public defender who dedicated 5 minutes to his case tells him they’ve offered probation and he can go home today, but if he takes it to trial he’s facing 20 years in prison. Not wanting to roll the dice, the target takes the plea.
Sheriff is happy because they don’t have to do actual police work (that’s dangerous and involves actual investigations… yuck!) they also get property they seized from the target, like phones, computers, cars, etc. in a forfeiture action, best of all and it keeps the federal and state gravy train money coming in so they can continue. The State is happy because they are collecting a bunch of fees and costs from the poor victim, such as cost of supervision, GPS monitoring fee, and the all important “treatment”. Not only do these “services” put a few bucks in their pocket, but they can count on some really nice kickbacks from companies like 3M.
Bingo! Well said. Is there any hope of stopping this or vindicating people like me and the other thousands of victims that are suffering under plea deals and lifetime registration for soliciting a “phantom victim?” I mean, literally, my court papers have NOTHING checked under “victim information.” Well duhhhh, because mine doesn’t even exist!!!
@MJ – same here. Was offered 5, turned it down, Pleaded to the bench to avoid the 25 years in prison.. Day of hearing State came at me for TEN YEARS IN PRISON. My docs have no identifiable victim noted. I still lost everything and must register – so we all know what that means…Orange County, FL sting 2011
Sorry to hear that JR. So you did 10 years or 5 years? Mine was in 2011 as well. I’m just waiting to see the day when Florida gets theirs for ruining my life, your life, and everyone else’s they’ve ruined through this.
MJ: Sorry I wasn’t clear. I did very well pleading to the bench. Well-informed Judge, compassionate as possible given the circumstance.
When I turned down the 5yr offer I filed for a bench trial. At the trial the State came in for 10years (double their initial offer) I was stunned.
The judge did the best she could and I am thankful for that. I only did 51 weeks in county jail (8.5months with gain time) 3 years SO probation (early termed at 17months) lifetime registration. I feel “lucky” actually.
But I am working as much as I can to help all of us in this mess to have a better future.

Wow. Yes. That really was “lucky”. I guess I should consider myself “lucky” also. I still have to deal with 7 yrs probation after 3 years in prison, but I don’t have to wear a monitor. I’m going to try and get my probation part of my sentence commuted after 1/3 of it is done. If that doesn’t work, I’ll file for early term 1/2 way through. But I just wish there was a way for all of us who took plea deals from these stings to be able to open up our cases again and get better deals, or have it thrown out altogether. I just wish FL could get busted big time for running these scams, and as a result, everyone who got busted in them would be exonerated. Very wishful thinking I know.
Quick clarification here. There is a Polk County GA but it borders Alabama. It didn’t mention which Polk Co in the article. I just assumed it was the one in Florida. Makes more sense to me if it was. BUT Polk County GA is a small rural county that probably needs the federal grant money given out from the sting, so that could be feasible as well. EIther way, it’s just insane and more and more states are doing them now. Remember, as Florida and California go, so go the nation. Cali was the first to do the stings on To Catch a Predator in the early 2000s and then Florida got in on the action late 2000s. I saw where they just did one in Tenn too. Insane. Just pure insanity.
I agree to most of your post except the accusation against planned parenthood. Was that ever proven to be fact or just media hysteria ?
Well, the undercover videos speak for themselves if you ask me. And the Feds busted down the door of the 27 year old that did the undercover vids, so tells me that someone must have a guilty complex about it.
Again, no registered Sex offenders were arrested!!!
Nope! Or anyone with a prior criminal record from what I could see. And most were in their younger 20s/30s. And I think a teenage navy sailor.
