Member Submissions: Volusia and Job Opportunities
A member in Volusia County recently received a call from his Sheriff’s office. After reading about the scams online, he called back and was told that they wanted him to come in and give another DNA sample. Has this happened to anyone else?
Another member wanted to tell other FAC members that he was successfully hired by Shipt.com, who is apparently hiring ex offender including those required to register.

Just so everyone is informed, I was recently offered employment by two different companies pending passing a background check. The requests to the search companies specifically requested criminal background checks going back 7 years in the case of IKEA and 10 years in the case of FIS (call center doing customer serve for AMEX and other credit card issuers) Both came back “no records found” But wait……you know the rest of the story. They found me on the registry. The company that was doing the search for IKEA even listed the offenses. So NOT REALLY 7 years, eh? I was given a chance to “explain” but we know what happened. Offers withdrawn. At least these clowns went though the actual process. i am convinced that most employers are doing “preliminary background checks” on the internet, etc. without informing the applicants. I was turned down by one of the discount airlines, Allegiant. They were doing a background check, but it was a very specific one required by the DHS that I would have passed because of the time lapsed and the nature of my offense. O f course, I didn’t get the job even though the managers said I had it. I am sure that Southwest did the same thing. I have had the same thing happen a couple of times with the rental car companies, Home Depot, etc. Get thorough multiple interviews and then crickets.
Another member in Putnam county reported the same call. He contacted his attorney who found no reason for them to respond. It was later determined that the call did not come from the Sheriff’s office.
I received the call from the sheriff requesting me to voluntarily submit DNA sample. Verified the calling number nby calling back the main ops center number. I am concerned that my DNA will show up at a crime scene since they already collected DNA from me when sentenced.
To help alleviate speculation on whether was a scam, this is the name and number of the officer within the Volusia county career crimes unit.

Seems legit. You can filter jobs by location, time you’ve been out, education, offense, number of offenses, etc. Think I’ll give it a try.
Through an affiliated organization we are developing hireanexfelon.com. It’s a long way from being completed, but it’s in development as a tool to help people find employment.
Sounds promising!
