MT: Montana registrant population grows 8.1% percent over five years

According to Montana Department of Justice data, Montana’s registered sex offender population grew from 5,292 in 2022 to 5,718 in 2026 — an increase of 426 offenders, or 8.1 percent over five years.

That’s a pretty remarkable number when you consider that Montana recognizes that registration is not lifelong for everyone. Under Mont. Code Ann. § 46-23-506(3), Level 1 offenders may petition for removal after 10 years of registration. Level 2 after 25 years. Montana (unlike Florida, also removed a registrants from the Montana registry when the person moves out of state. This means there are some people falling off the registry each year, but the number being added to the registry is outpacing the attrition.

It’s kind of ironic that the whole Adam Walsh Act, which is supposed to drive these statistics down, is actually seeing numbers rise so rapidly.

The part to also remember is that there is most likely a large % increase of homeless, jobless and mentally stressed individuals. Such a backward system. Then remove all proven safety nets that decrease recidivism.

We really need a tier system in Florida because there are so many people on the registry with level one and Level offenses shouldn’t be there and then also that will give way to the people level three to force legislation to change in the future to allow them to get off as well.🙏🏽. It’s overkill in Florida. 🙏🏽

so very strange..every states registry increasing by leaps and bounds every year but we are continually told the registry perpetually hangs at around 880,000… Anyone smell something really fishy here? Almost like they believe they’ve found a sweet spot number? If they say there’s less they cant justify it if they admit to more people might question it? maybe its just me but the maths just doesn’t seem to be mathing..

Could it be just the biggest extortion and racketeering scheme of the last century. 🤔
