NARSOL files suit over Oklahoma Driver’s License branding

The National Association for Rational Sexual Offense Laws (of which FAC is the Florida affiliate) and OK Voices (the Oklahoma affiliate of NARSOL) has filed a civil rights lawsuit in the Northern District of Oklahoma challenging the Constitutionality of an Oklahoma Statute that requires the driver’s licenses of persons required to register as sexual offenders be branded with the marking “Sex Offender”.

The Complaint alleges the branding constitutes compelled speech in violation of the First Amendment. The plaintiffs seek declaratory and injunctive relief against the Commissioner of the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety and the Attorney General of the state, preventing them from branding individual’s licenses. A similar federal lawsuit was successful in Alabama and one challenging the “Sexual Predator” label on Florida licenses was successful here.

FAC wishes lots of luck to NARSOL and OK Voices, and especially to the brave individuals who agreed to be named plaintiffs in the lawsuit! You got this one!!!

I’m lost. My DL still has the predator designation. Are you saying i can get it replaced without that?
And for the trolls, I was adjudicated guilty in the attempt. Attempt means no physical contact occurred or it wouldn’t be attempted. I could go on about how I didn’t even do that but I was being told by my public defender that these cases always lose and I was going to do
a lot of time. And so if o wanted any life I should take the deal, but trolls don’t listen so it would be pointless. LOL

You are probably referring to the immigration detention facility that’s being put at the old Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport. The facility is going to be an ICE temporary detention facility, used to house illegal immigrants. Not clue what you’re hearing or where, but the information doesn’t seem reputable.

Read the news. It’s intended to be an ICE detention center.

Salisbury you may want to change your sources of information. It’s for housing immigrants detained by ice.

How do you know that some of your patients/clients at Humana are registrants? I worked in medicine/academia for over twenty five years. In a corporation as large as Humana, are they flagging registrants? It’s well documented that ALF and LTC facilities are running background checks and denying access to registrants.

So you’re claiming that one person’s statement of experience is delusional because you heard the opposite through a third party?

We’ve received many reports of people being denied care or caregivers being denied access to hospitals where a family member is being treated. Of course the level of care given once an individual is flagged as a registrant is another issue.

        @A

SOOO, you were there with me that day in the hospital?

I was sharing my experience with others as many of us have had horrible experiences because of the registry. I have had 3 different doctors tell me they could no longer treat me. At least once was honest and when I asked why, they showed me my registry page and said their staff felt uneasy with me being in the patient room with me, even though I had done nothing to them.

Now if I said I went out to lunch yesterday and sat down with Donald Trump for a meeting, then I would expect you not to believe me. I was sharing with others and have heard from many over the years the bad experiences they have had.
It varies from county, from the situation, and even the law enforcement that comes to your house. I happen to have a very nice office who checks on me. Other state they had a bad experience. Should I tell them they are lying just because I did not have that same bad experience with my officer? Shows how degrading your comment is.
There is an old saying, if you do not have something nice to say, don’t say anything at all.

Not only is the label ‘sexual predator’ on a driver’s license ‘compelled speech’ and therefore illegal, but whenever a registrant signs a regstration document that contains a personal label on it illegal as well because it also is ‘compelled speech’ in that it is seen by the public on the internet.

This is the second time in OK this effort has been done with the first one in the state’s favor in the end. Hope the lesson was learned there about what really needed to be done so it will be successful when it reaches Denver and the 10th CCOA.
