New Laws In Effect Today: Prostitution and Revenge Porn
Thankfully, FAC was successful in blocking the passage of several horrible laws (lifetime GPS, for example) during last year’s legislative session.
Several new laws go into effect today (nothing going into effect today impacts registrants) so here are a few changes to be aware of as they relate to sex or pornography:
Prostitution:
Paying for sex will become a first-degree misdemeanor for a first offense instead of a second-degree misdemeanor. A second offense would be a third-degree felony, punishable by up to five years in prison, and a third offense would be a second-degree felony, punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
First offenders would also have to take a course on the dangers of prostitution and perform 100 hours of community service.
Revenge Porn:
It will now be illegal in Florida to post sexually explicit photos or videos of exes online without their consent.
A first offense would be a first-degree misdemeanor. A second violation would be a third-degree felony, punishable by up to five years in prison.

That Is a falsehood and a LIE. Why is FAC taking credit for Blocking this bill?
This bill did not pass due to the technical and logistical difficulties associated with the bill and the devises themselves.. The largest opponents of the bill were the Sheriff’s offices themselves. I do not understand why you would give your supporters and DONORS a false sense of accomplishment by FAC.
Our legislative team spent the session in Tallahassee lobbying against these bills. There are always multiple lobbyists on both sides of the bill; groups that are for it, groups that are against it, ones who will vote for it and ones who will not.
Certainly FAC was not the only opponent and thankfully a bad bill didn’t get passed.
Dear Valerie,
Because the fact is FAC was and the spearhead of the opposition to these laws that, though they might line some pockets ::cough cough::, have been shown repeatedly to put more innocent people at risk rather than protect them. Why would anyone be a proponent for things that put our children in harm’s way, things that destroy the integrity and meaningfulness of our constitution and nation that so many have fought and died to protect? If peeing in public is unforgiveable, if having a relationship with a person just a year or two younger than you simply because of a man-made age barrier is unforgiveable, if being a child (by law) and sexually experimenting with another child (by law) is unforgiveable, then certainly pushing family, child, veteran, and society destroying agenda is unforgiveable.
Luckily for you, not all are as out-for-blood as you are, and so your transgressions are forgiven. Even by those you continue to hurt, you are still seen as human and are worthy of compassion.
First they came for the Registered Sex Offenders, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a [Registered] Sex Offender.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
While I applaud the law making “revenge porn” illegal, I am not at all happy about criminalizing further “payment for sex”. It is already beyond ridiculous that prostitution is illegal in this country and here in Hillsborough County and particularly on Nebraska Ave., upon or near which I’ve resided for many, many years, it is stupider still. Yes, I said “stupider” because it is and you’ll think so too, when you hear what the worn-out and actually pretty smart TPD has come up with.
First, some history: Nebraska Avenue in Tampa, particularly the zip codes 33602 and 33605 and 33604 are some of the roughest areas around. In part, this is due to the fact that it is a “mixed-zoning area, with a conglomeration of businesses and residences. There are some historical houses here, some run-down houses and apartments and lots and lots of crime. For many years, the TPD wore itself out chasing the prostitutes up and down Nebraska and then would tell everyone that there were no more prostitutes. Well, all that had happened, was the prostitutes had simply moved south, as the police were working north, or moved north as the police worked south and nothing was really being done.
A few years ago, this was finally admitted to, and I’m not sure what brainiac came up with this idea, but it was this: there would be certain “zones of opportunity” that the prostitutes could work within, and if they were caught outside of that “zone” then they would be fined. The “zones” would change from time to time, I guess in the interest of making sure everyone got their piece of the pie. To be honest, I read this in the Tampa Tribune, and am never quite sure that it was implemented, but it sounds like something our Councilman, Frank Reddick would come up with. As it was, the over-burdened TPD who was forever trying to entrap people in these “stings” that they dislike doing so much probably would welcome something like that, and go out and find real criminals. I just don’t see that penalizing the customer, unless, it’s because it’s another source of money makes any sense; it just ruins lives and families.
