Courtesy of our affiliates at Texas Voices, we are learning of a new scam targeting persons on the registry.
People are receiving letters in the mail with no return address, but personalized to them. The letter demands payment of money via bitcoin or they will notify all their neighbors of their status, their employers, their family members’ associates, church congregation, etc.

We MUST take action and insist law enforcement prepare a report and follow through. Enough is enough!
…can’t protect your self with a gun, can’t remain anonymous, can’t remain silent. Have to move about against your free will and register information you can’t even plead the 5th on all so some fat woman that controls a small friend circle can google you and ride around the neighbor hood 1/2 informed and try and make friends.
This is what happens when you take someone’s constitutional rights away and post them on a hate site.
Actually the scammere is no to bright as to demand $350.00 a month perhaps 10% or less of his targets can afford that

Depends what state don’t really depend on police to do report in florida they can care less right now there is amber alert for 5 year old with in second sentence they said sex offenders thanks for passinf the information alone noe time for all offenders to start fighting back
Linda and all, that is exactly why we must file reports at the federal level and show that the florida authorities wont do anything. Whenever something like this happens, we have the right to demand federal investigation into the violations of our civil rights and liberties. Shake the trees!
First, if this letter came through mail service they would need to contact the postal Inspection Service, as it’s their Jurisdiction. Their Investigators are Special Agents just like the FBI and they have arrest powers and will Investigate. Second, if they follow through on this, what can happen and by simply doing an Under Cover (UC) operation and have the person pay and they would be able to track it and would up the crime a level or two. These individuals are a bunch of scum bags, let’s hope people who are getting these letters have enough sense to follow through.
Big J – thanks for sharing the recording of the voicemail from the scammer that tried to get you. The information you shared was provided to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, and they are now giving a letter to those who register warning them about the scam.
Unless I missed it, there is no way the person even knows who is paying him the money. I would of liked a photo of the envelopes the letters have been sent in as I would not be surprised if they are all from one area of the country (from the post office stamp, not the return address), if they even originate in the US, which I doubt.
I had a thought a while back and this thread would be as good a place as any to post it and see what others think. In the state of Florida (and pretty much elsewhere), “aiding and abetting” a crime is as if the person took place in the crime itself. So, if a registrant gets hurt (G-d forbid) or worse, someone in his/her family does, wouldn’t the Legislature be considered “aiding and abetting” since they put the registry together in the first place? In other words, if John Smith gets arrested for harming a registrant and is charged with battery, might members of the Legislature be held responsible for aiding and abetting since they provided the information that led to the crime?
Just asking the forum since I am not a legal eagle or anything. I am pretty sure there is a law that basically protects a legislator while doing his/her official duties, but might this argument hold any weight?
I believe they have absolute immunity meaning they don’t pay personally for their mistakes against humans only we do unless they step outside the law like colluding.
I toss out mail with no return address. His threats are empty. He will only follow up on the suckers who give in. All our information is public so everybody already knows. So who gives a fu¢k?
So has anybody confirmed if he even follows up on these threats? I get the fear, but there’s no way I would pay this guy. I would shine him and eventually he would give up and move on to the next. I don’t see how he can find out so much information unless people have all of this stuff on their social media sites. seems like a total bluff to me.
These scammers usually go for the low hanging fruit – the guys who just blindly pay the extortion. What’s their incentive in doing the work?
I find it hard to believe that his bitcoin account can not be discovered by law enforcement.
Thanks for the heads up. This latest scam only compounds as evidence that not only the Registry is useless to the public but engenders criminal activity.
From acts of violence to fraudulent scams, these things are made possible because of the Registry and therefore the government is accountable for these incidents.
Awesome analysis Bill. It creates a list for us to targeted by others and to use the registry as punishment because it saying we have no protection from others.

Good morning, although this concept is unsettling… It is a reality for registrants. I think we have to remember this concept of scam calls is not unique to anyone.
I truly feel the best way to combat this issue here’s what we are doing… Knowledge… We have learned overtime that you cannot necessarily rely on law enforcement. Let’s rely on each other, keep on spreading the word… Let other registrants know that they are not alone and arm them with our knowledge.
This should be enough reason to get the registry obliterated. This is proof enough (as well as the murders that have occurred to registrants) that such a registry opens the door to harassment.
Obviously there are people who don’t care that it’s illegal to use the registry to harass those who are on it.
Aloha, I want to thank you for making us aware of the phone scam that the person on the other end saying that we are not current with our registration and we have to report to the local police department or they will come and get us.
I live in Hawaii and received a call like this the other day, they were very hostile, knew my full name and address and called me 3 times.
At first I freaked out because the call woke me up and it was a local number. Then I remember reading about the scam here , so I told them to do what they had too and that I was not reporting to the police.
I then called out AG office to notify them to make them aware and see if they wanted the number, which they said no. They advise me to call the police on my island to make them aware, so I did and was informed that I was current and to just ignore them if I continue getting them.
They were concerned about it took the number and told me that I was not the only one that reported this.
Once again thank you for informing us who do not live in Florida. I read everything that you put on here and can’t believe how the laws differ from state to state. Those of us on the registry here in Hawaii are not subjected to all that you are over there.

Doesn’t this new scam just ENFORCE AND PROVE that the Registery IS PUNISHMENT !?!?!?!?. Can’t this be used as Ammo in defense to prove that the Registery IS PUNISHMENT according to EVERYONE except the “Government ??? This Dirtbag admits how the Registery is used to CRUSH AND DESTROY anyone’s life that is on it, AND it’s used to also Destroy the FAMILY AND FRIENDS of Anyone on the Registery !!!??!?!!?!?!?!!.
