New security system will keep sex offenders out of Palm Beach County schools

WEST PALM BEACH (CBS12) – School will soon be back in session in Palm Beach County, and this year, new technology is offering an added layer of security.

Ashley Frost is a parent and a teacher in Greenacres and says “I feel responsible to keep them safe so having one more security system in place can’t hurt.”

The new system is called Raptor Visitor Management. You scan the ID and it automatically runs your name through a database. It can reveal everything from a sex offense to a custody battle in all 50 states.

Palm Beach County School District Police Chief, Lawrence Leon, says “every visitor that comes on the campus screens in through the front desk.”
And if something questionable shows up, Chief Leon says “one of the components it has is there’s a panic button on the computer itself and we get a notification as well if there’s an issue,” and no one is exempt. Even volunteers will have to scan their ID’s

“I saw what it did there and what the capabilities were and its phenomenal,” says Chief Leon.

Raptor Technologies says it’s already stopped more than 15-thousand sex offenders from getting through the system across the nation, giving parents like Frost peace of mind as a parent and a teacher.

“It’s scary there’s that many people out there but to stop that, that’s wonderful.”

Sad to say, *this* one isn’t just an SO issue. They are certainly using the SO fear to help push it through, but Nicholas and Karen seem to get the horrific implications for this.

And once an infrastructure gets put into place, with an economy built around it, trying to tear it down is no joke. Just look at the registry.

Lovely. So if this spreads I will no longer be able to watch my son’s band performances. And next I will not be able go buy my own food, or even see a doctor… This program needs shut down before it gets worse…

      ME-

Be sure that you check and are aware of your local municipality, county, and state requirements to notify the schools you attend for your child’s activities. Failure to notify may be an arrestable, prosecutorial offense.

What about gang members, drug offenders and the like? There are so many people who shouldn’t be around minors (or other adults for that matter).

This is nothing more than what happened with the GPS ankle monitors that Blutag and Protek pushed on the people through advocating how useful they are in preventing crime, when in fact it did nothing to stop woman from being raped and murdered in California by a couple of guys wearing the damn things.

This IS the baby steps to BIG BROTHER. Seriously, this is a big push to get it accepted by the general population because nobody likes sex offenders. Before long, it will be everywhere and everyone with a warrant will be able to go into a school and the cops who up to arrest. But it wont’ just be schools. It will eventually become your local Costco, Walmart, etc. Because eventually, it will be cool to ensure thieves can’t enter stores and DUI offenders cannot buy cars. At the same time, the US Department of Justice will get “hits” from the data feeds made available via the companies behind these “electronic gates”.

Slippery slopes… everyone likes a good water slide don’t they.. losing control even only a little can have long term negative effects on society.

Sorry for all the posts but having thoughts here – lol. What if they start using this all over? Movies, stores, etc. and who will chose who is worthy of entering a particular place?

Karen, it’s as simple as checking our FL Driver License for the offender statute number printed on the front of our card.
