New security system will keep sex offenders out of Palm Beach County schools

WEST PALM BEACH (CBS12) – School will soon be back in session in Palm Beach County, and this year, new technology is offering an added layer of security.

Ashley Frost is a parent and a teacher in Greenacres and says “I feel responsible to keep them safe so having one more security system in place can’t hurt.”

The new system is called Raptor Visitor Management. You scan the ID and it automatically runs your name through a database. It can reveal everything from a sex offense to a custody battle in all 50 states.

Palm Beach County School District Police Chief, Lawrence Leon, says “every visitor that comes on the campus screens in through the front desk.”
And if something questionable shows up, Chief Leon says “one of the components it has is there’s a panic button on the computer itself and we get a notification as well if there’s an issue,” and no one is exempt. Even volunteers will have to scan their ID’s

“I saw what it did there and what the capabilities were and its phenomenal,” says Chief Leon.

Raptor Technologies says it’s already stopped more than 15-thousand sex offenders from getting through the system across the nation, giving parents like Frost peace of mind as a parent and a teacher.

“It’s scary there’s that many people out there but to stop that, that’s wonderful.”

But guess what the new system doesnt screen for, its the new person that has no criminal record that is one step from being a sex offender. As said its not a problem of re offending but new one coming into the system.

It’s tragic. It’s becoming impossible for a registrant to build a career or family in this state.

They use this in Hillsborough county. Prevents me from participating in my son’s education for the next 13 years. That should do wonders for his academic abilities. Thanks Florida!
