The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), established by the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act 2003, by the Federal Government of Nigeria has announced that it will launch a sex offender register to “name and shame rapists and offenders of other forms of violence against persons”
Director General of NAPTIP, Julie Okah, made clear in several statements that the purpose was to “name and shame” individuals with sexual offenses.
“By the end of this month (July), we are going to be launching the sex offenders register. This register is going to name and shame all the rapist in Nigeria.”
“At the time we begin to name and shame them, I believe that it will send a strong message to those who are planning to rape and they will desist from that heinous crime.”
There was no mention of whether the the registry will appear on a public website, the duration of registration or what other restrictions and requirements will come with registration.
they are combination threaten and bribed by the United States government using tax payer dollars. All the 3rd world country’s that play ball with the USA corruption get kick backs. If they dont follow the United States bad example the USA threatens to stop giving them the bribery money’s. My wife is a judge in one of the country’s involved. They all were just given free wifi hot spots , computers, laptops, gadgets, printers and all types of goodies to implement black lists and registry’s., They are also getting a free all expense paid trip to New Zealand for politicians and judges.
The USA cant get its own country under control but cant help itself from destroying everyone else country as well. The worlds worst terrorist is the USA government
Wow! Very interesting. If this is valid, I must ask if this is the way US citizens want their tax dollars spent? I wonder which department puts up the funds? I would not hesitate to write the director of that department and ask, “What the hell?”. This needs to be brought out into the light.
Of all the places to launch a SO registry, Nigeria is one of the least to need one. They need a violent murderer/executioner registry. Personally I would rather be sexually offended than have my family murdered in their sleep. A registry for Nigeria…how hypocritical.
….and this coming from a country that tolerates brutal attacks against Christians in the name of “Allah” in the form of Boko Haram. Why don’t they round those guys up and put them on a registry? I would think senselessly murdering Christians in cold blood for no apparent reason is even more “heinous” than rape……. speaking of that, many of those same Boko Haram members rape Christian women before they kill them as well, so can expect to see them on that list too??
Name and shame at least their calling it what it is and not bullshiting themselfs
Irony… Nigeria wants to implement a registry for sex offenses, but can’t enforce their own laws concerning female genital mutilation against women and young girls
It was the first thing I thought of when I read the title.
Yes i can understand for rapist but there are alot on it besides rapist thats wrong alot of them from internet sex sting with no no victim young kids as young as 8on it but no one seem to really investigate anything can not always take word of female. Plus if they have sex at a over age party then all partys involved need to be punish female for sneaking out the person who maded fake id parents not knowing where child is at not just male need to rethink of who really needs to be on registery
