Not allowed to live on land or sea.

“Despicable — not allowed to live on land or sea.”

That was the reaction of Miami attorney Valerie Jonas when we shared yesterday’s Miami Herald article, titled “Can sex predators be banned from a Keys marina?“, with her.

A Florida Keys marina wants to ban registered citizens from living at the marina and has asked City Attorney David Migut about the possibility of excluding registered predators from the Boot Key Harbor City in Marathon.

Despite the fact that the article points out;
– Ports Director Sean Cannon said “registered predators and offenders haven’t been a problem in the past two and half years he’s run the marina”, and
– “Marathon City Manager Chuck Lindsey said the city doesn’t have any current issues at the marina with people charged with sex crimes.”
… they still feel the need to banish registered citizens from a boat marina.
Many people, with the limited housing options caused by residency restrictions, chose to anchor a boat offshore because it’s one of the only compliant places to live. Now, apparently, living offshore is still too close.
It is despicable!

    I say that a bunch of us SO’s just get together and buy a small island in the Caribbean and make a luxurious life for ourselves on it. Margaritas and hammocks between the palm trees. I just want to make sure it’s close enough to where I can see the Florida coastline and give it the middle finger every day!

      Good idea, MJ, but let’s make the State pay for it since they won’t let us live in peace anywhere else!!!

        Stop complaining and do something about it! Are you sitting around saying “poor me?” For those of you who have finished your sentence and probation and are left with only the “register for life” go out and do WHATEVER you have to do and hire a lawyer and let’s all begin fighting this shit! No one is going to do it for you!!

          skip – I agree. We have to individually fight for ourselves and hopefully that will make beneficial change for others. However, I’d like to say FAC and RSOL, the ACLU and quite a few other organizations fight for us all.
