NY: Cuomo: Make Sex Offenders Disclose Dating, Gaming User Names
New York’s governor says convicted sex offenders should be required to disclose their social media screen names to prevent them from using apps to exploit children.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Sunday that existing laws targeting online predation don’t account for new technology. His proposal, unveiled as part of his State of the State agenda, would require sex offenders to hand over screen names for dating and gaming apps, as well.
The Democrat’s proposed legislation would also make it a crime for convicted sex offenders to misrepresent themselves online.
Cuomo says sex offenders currently only have to provide the state with information for their social media accounts. The state compiles that information into a list and sends it to certain social networking companies which have used it to purge accounts.

I have been saying all along, if we allow them an inch, they will take a mile. In the future if we do not stop this, we will all end up in a city in the desert with camps set up for just registered offenders.
They have legislated our lives to the point where we cannot find a job, cannot go on a date, cannot go to the theme parks with our grandkids. We cannot chat on sites unless we disclose we are a registered person, at which point we are banned. We cannot join Nextdoor which uses witch hunt tactics to stir up otherwise calm neighborhoods.
THEN on top of that, if we forget to give law enforcement every bit of information about our lives from the day we are born, we face a life sentence for violating registration laws.
Meanwhile someone who shot someone gets probation with time served because they spent 6 months in jail awaiting trial.
If we do no win this expo facto case, they are just going to keep adding more and more rules and restrictions to the point of where we all end up in jail.
A few years ago I drove to a school to pick up sand bags for the coming hurricane. A deputy was there for some reason running tags ( guess he was bored ) After I drove off, he pulled me over asking why I was at a school. I politely stated that he stood right there and watched me get sand bags and leave the property and that no judge is going to allow that charge if he arrests me for that. I explained I use to work in law enforcement and I know for a fact that bad arrests go in your permanent file when it comes to a promotion so he better damn well make sure he knows what he is doing. I then said ” If I am free to go, have a nice day and be safe out there”. He then told me not to come back.
Registered sex offenders already are barred from commenting on the article. That would require a Facebook plug-in.

Im ex member of the club and still 15 yrs later tossed out of date site cause of misleading criminal reports
they say once your released, all data bases and public display is removed,,, well that is far from the truth try to travel out of the country then enter back in, then customs pulls you in for the 2 hour drill not to mention searches of cell phs computers USB chips
there is no real release from the the registry and If you think you are free after released your just pissing up a tree
This is why I no longer travel. Leaving was a breeze and was never once questioned. Coming back to the first point of entry into the U.S was a nightmare every time and you never knew what or who to expect.
One time I had a super nice fellow from the TSA / customs and he walked me back and went through my luggage real quick, put everything back the way it was and then checked the computer for warrants and in 15 minutes had me on my way.
The next time I got the Gestapo. Four officers took me back to a room with no windows. They were breaking my stuff and dumping things on the floor. I had just an hour to make my flight but didn’t dare tell them that. When they were done, they walked out and said “Once you get all your shit put away, you can go”.
Also not sure how it is now with the notifications but never had a single problem entering into any of the numerous foreign countries I traveled to. Some never even asked for a passport and others didn’t even have a point of entry. Just the coming back was the nightmare on Elm street.
If you ever travel outside the U.S my best advice is, get a DIRECT flight back to your home town if possible so you do not miss you connector, of which they almost never reimburse you for.
Uggh. More legislation based on fear mongering and political expediency. Is there ANY evidence that this measure will protect children, or is it merely speculation?
In an old joke, a bartender noticed a patron who would snap his fingers when he took a drink. When the bartender asked why, the customer replied, “it keeps the pink elephants away.” The bartender retorted, “there are no pink elephants around here.” The customer replied, “see it works doesn’t it?” Sexual recidivism is low because offenders rarely re-offend, not because legislators are snapping their fingers.
Also, the term misrepresentation is incredibly ambiguous. Misrepresenting what on a dating site? When contacting someone, must a registrant immediately disclose his status? Perhaps it should be required information in ones profile. These poli-chickens are insane.
Well the police misrepresent them self when doing inetnet sex sting including gradually saying they are 14 so what they do is ok or when those girl did that sex sting to that guy what punishment did they get
I’m honestly cant figure out what lawmakers wants from registrants. They say they want people to reintegrate into society and become productive members. But the legislation they pass says otherwise. Seems to me they want to legislate you into poverty until you make a techinal mistake and then go back to prison for some B.S. violation. My case is 30 years old with over 20 years on the registry. Iv seen it go from nothing to this Disaster piece it currently is.
It’s always about the children what about the SO that don’t have child victims. This shit has gotten so hard for people to understand its lost it purpose everyone knows someone on it so the more the better!
Gov. Bozo Cuomo with a dunce cap on. That is the picture I envision when I read such non-sense. Educating someone in this high position is a fools errand. He is willfully ignorant which makes him dangerous. I cannot believe any empirical data or statistical information had an impact on this decision. Way to go Bozo. I hope your next government position is a shovel ready job following the horses of NY’s finest. Keep your head up when you are doing that job and the horses a** will be like looking in a mirror.
