NY: Cuomo plans to ban sex offenders from transit system

Repeat and high-risk sex offenders would be banned from the MTA tranist system under a new law proposed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

The NYPD announced support for the ban when Cuomo suggested it in March of 2019. The ban would apply to offenders for three years and blocks them from the subway, bus and rail systems.

The Legal Aid Society delivered a rebuke to the plan.

“No one supports unwanted sexual touching on the subway, but this wrongheaded proposal from Governor Cuomo will do far more harm than good. It will further marginalize this group of New Yorkers – many of whom are New Yorkers of color – who are profiled by police when they use mass transit. It will sever their access to jobs, critical services, educational opportunities, and treatment programs. Albany should spend less time finding new ways to demonize our already over-policed clients and more time creating opportunities for treatment and necessary services. Finally, we question the constitutionality of this misguided proposal and we are prepared to challenge it in court should it become law.”

What is with this jerk? I thought he was a big time liberal. You know, peace love and forgiveness! What an a-hole!

When have you ever known a liberal to practice what they preach?
Don’t forget that the “Me Too” movement is liberal. All men are rapists. Feminists have become faminazis. These people are “victims” of the wind blowing through their hair without their consent.
But yeah, I’d like to know how this idiot governor plans to enforce this nonsense.

Liberal here. Cuomo ain’t one of us. Never was. He can get lost.

Liberals tend to view convicted criminals as human beings who need help so they can put their lives back together. Conservatives tend to view convicted criminals as morally defective people who must be separated from society. Though there are notable exceptions such as the conservative Right on Crime movement (and our president, during those moments when he has Kim Kardashian’s attention).

See how that works? I realize that we at FAC will never agree whether liberals or conservatives are more inherently reliable. What I do know is that FAC members come from across the political spectrum, and what unites us is that we are better-informed about how counter-productive registries are.

(Also, some of y’all will get mad at me for pointing out that Me Too has done more good than bad. But that is a separate issue from registration).

I do not even see how this could be legal under the constitution under our right to travel. I mean if you do not own a car and are an offender who struggled to finally get a job, and now you cannot even to work?
Guess it is the free pass to jail for everyone, which is what they wanted all along ( Big Government )
A nation of, for and by the people? I do not think so

At what point do we arm ourselves? Taking of voting rights 30 years after attempt crime from a directed verdict? Denied right to run as candidate. At what point do we protect our Constitution?

We defend ourselves by following the law. We effect change via the courts as arguing the facts and reason to a public who has been fed false information to instill fear and garner votes is pointless. We remind those in power that although they have taken away our right to vote they can’t take away our spouses right to vote or our families right to vote or our friends right to vote. How many elections in Florida have been VERY close? Once we have a consensus on what politicians are reasonable on our issues we should vote accordingly and as a block. This will put all politicians on notice that all of those affected by their pandering will use their vote to ensure they are defeated in whatever election they are running in. Power in numbers people so start talking to those who will be voting in the future elections and let’s be ready.

Willie, while I will always advocate for anyone’s right to self defense it would be unwise to suggest armed resistance specially in this forum as I’m sure it is monitored.

Boooooooooo…..we don’t have to bear arms but following the law? The law is only effective when everyone follows it. I am not suggesting we violate or break the law but I do suggest we come together on a national level and say if the laws don’t change we will all stand together against them. I would love for all forced to register people to just say we ain’t doing it. We are no different then anyone else we did our time and we aren’t going to let anyone take away our rights to freedom peace and happiness but alas that requires unity and we don’t have enough people ready to unify on that level. We need a delicate balance of safe non violent radical action and relying on the courts system. My son was playing a game online and a 14 year old kid said he had to go to court for nudies he got from his girlfriend. How long before we stand? How many lives have to be ruined
