NY Daily News Needs to Shame Sex offenders Posthumously

This week’s tragedy in Washington, when an Amtrak train derailed killing several passengers, could have stood alone as “big news” for the NY Daily News. So why did the news outlet need to run as story titled, “Third man killed in Washington state Amtrak derailment was convicted for child pornography.”

Were they trying to suggest that the deaths were not a complete tragedy? Were they trying to further wound an already deceased man?

At this point the only shame and hurt they are adding are to the deceased victim’s family. Someone might want to suggest that to the editor. You can contact them from the link at the bottom of the article, which can be found here: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/man-killed-amtrak-derailment-convicted-sex-offender-article-1.3711976

Sent a disgruntled letter to the editor titled “de mortuis nil nisi bonum”.

As a victim childhood sexual abuse, I’m appalled by this article. There’s no need to drag his past which brings up the victim’s past into this. I personally have forgiven my past hurts and choose to move forward.

Sounds like you have realized that it is better to be a surviver rather than a victim. And that is a wonderful thing.

I went to read and comment on their Facebook page and there was over 300 comments of people disgusted with the fact that this was even raised. The general consensus was not that of scorn and derision, but of compassion of the death of the man and condolences to the family. It was surprising.
