Ocala sex offender jailed after registering a day late
An Ocala man was arrested Monday after he showed up a day late to update his registration as a sex offender.
Shaun David Killie, 33, of 4055 NW 63rd St., was supposed to re-register during the month of May. He was reminded when he updated his vehicle information in December 2019 and again in February, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office report.
Killie reported Monday to the sheriff’s office sexual offender unit and completed a late registration for May 2020. He had no excuse for not registering on time.

Arresting someone for being a day late is stupid; waste of time and money that could be spent on something useful. However if he forgot especially after being arrested once before for a similar violation that’s on him. I thought you could register certain information via FDLE website. This system is beyond a failure: force people to give information check; getting a job tougher check; housing is restricted check; not having available hours for people to register check; and re-arrest for looking at the opposite sex uncheck. Glad re-arrest for looking at the opposite sex isn’t reality. Hell I’d wear sunglasses 24/7!! Great now that songs in my head.
Same response to this one that I had to the story of the guy that attempted to register twice in April then blew it off……..
This guy cooked his own rear end…… C’mon people, we may not like or agree with all of the crap they heap on us but it’s the law of the land and it’s OUR responsibility to comply.
One person being lackadaisical and not complying hurts ALL of us. We fight daily to bring change to the draconian laws and this type of thing shoots us all in the foot…….
AMEN Roger!
Very well said !
Yeah Roger, and this episode PROVES that what registrants have to go through is BULLSHIT. The man’s residence and other information hasn’t changed. So what’s the damn fuss about a day late? Do we automatically get arrested if we are a day late with registering our vehicles with the DMV? In most cases you might get a ticket and in some cases the office will tell you to get it registered right away. Same with a broken headlight. Sometimes a ticket, sometimes a warning. With this there is no option other than ARREST for something that DIDNT CHANGE.
I hate to say it but you’re not helping the situation by sounding like an ass kisser. I think this man’s episode HELPS to prove the case of unconstitutional bullshit. A fucking day. Spare me!
Typo above “sometimes the OFFICER will tell you to get it registered right away”.
Another quick thought……. being an ass kisser aside, do you make a point of doing everything required of you within the legal time frames to avoid being arrested?
If this guy’s situation seems like such a good piece of ammo to fight these laws with then don’t let him stand alone. Skip your next registration so when you’re arrested you’ll have standing to file the appeals and fight this. I’ll contribute to your legal defense fund.
I absolutely agree that a day late is BS…….. but what I think is irrelevant. I’ll bitch and complain all the way to and from the Sheriff’s office when I go register, which is this coming week for me, but I WILL go when I’m supposed to. Do I like it, nope, but I like going back to jail or prison even less. Cussing in righteous indignation while looking out at the world through razor wire and electric fence isn’t what I want to be doing.
What change! Time for Police State Reform, hand out this like its speedung tickets
That poor guy! Can you imagine what his weekend was like?
I can picture him snapping his fingers and clapping his hand to his head Friday evening around 9:30 PM when he suddenly remembered the thing that he had forgotten to take care of that week!
If you don’t have a reminder system, please put one in place!!
I have 2 systems, and I pray to God that they always work.
1.) I have a recurring reminder on my phone calendar. If you looked at my phone calendar during my registration months, you would see a reminder set for every day of that month. These reminders continue all the way out to the end of my calendar on the current phone. (I believe it was the year 2028, if I remember correctly.) If you use the repeat functions on your phone calendar it doesn’t take very long to set up.
2.) FAC offers a FREE REMINDER SERVICE to everyone.
Simply text the word SETUP – along with your registration months – to (727) 233-4785
Example 1) SETUP Jan Jul
Example 2)SETUP 2 5 8 11
This system will send you text reminders several times during the month.
Once you complete your registration (but only AFTER!), text the word REGISTERED. This will mute reminders until your next registration month.

Every RSO’s Nightmare is they forget to register during their month. They should make it your birthday month and leave it at that.
I have said this before and i will say it again if they can arrest/charge/jail him for missing to register then the Registry is punitive contrary to what the supreme court says and there for constitutes double jeopardy
Damn it people. Law enforcement will violate us any way they can. A day late registering is against the law. A day late for me could mean 30 years imprisonment.
Not sure why my comment was apparently pulled but this guy may not have violated any law if he was never released from all sanctions of conviction.. see https://law.justia.com/cases/florida/second-district-court-of-appeal/2020/18-2552.html
FAC’s discussion of that below. Unfortunately I don’t think this individual will benefit.
