In the most recent post on his site, Derek writes, “To be honest, only pride and not wanting the enemy to declare victory over me giving up kept me going, but life is getting too short to fret over what a few worthless scumbags think about me. It is time that I start looking for things that make me happy. I have not had much joy in my life over the past 15 years. This registry and the discrimination and hate we receive as registered humans make me bitter and angry. The fact that most people on this list are too fearful in 2018 to speak out does not help my growing cynicism of my life’s work. But in light of recent events, I can understand why these folks fear speaking out.”
Agree with his methods or not, Derek did build a valuable resource. Whether it was used as a depository of research or a place where other registrants could find information and referrals, it would be a tremendous shame if oncefallen.com would die.
In the wake of recent efforts to censor and intimidate him, it’s understandable why Derek would want to hand off his efforts, but at the same time, we hope (unless legally required to do so), he will re-consider.

@Oncefallen. I have visited your blog over the years and commented on some of your posts which I found offensive. We all share the same anger and frustration as you but to vent that anger laced with profanities towards a “Professional Victim” in public comment sections does a disservice to our cause. Never forget this: The public has sympathy for the victim without empathy for us the offenders.
Words matter. Written public appearances or statements matter. We must elevate our tone above the gutter to succeed.

No. I disagree and think it’s not a good comment. First of all, Derek has the first amendment right to say whatever he wants to say and how he wants to say it. Furthermore, “talking nice” with carefully planned out words is NOT something those idiots in the legislature or any branch of govt respect, or respond to. I’ve said it a million times over, trying to win THEIR GAME by playing by THEIR RULES AND THEIR LAWS is a lose-lose situation. I mean, any court action taken for our causes is most likely to just sit in court gridlock and dragged along for months/years, all the while, all of us and our families are still suffering under laws that were passed IMMEDIATELY and didn’t take months/years to get passed. I find it interesting that idiot legislators can take drastic actions and get immediate results. So then, why can’t we take drastic actions and get immediate results? I mean, Derek took drastic action, and it got immediate results. So much so, that it obviously rattled Little Miss Precious to the point where she is abusing her powers to make his life miserable, which should tell you something about her character right then and there. I don’t get it. I don’t understand why WE THE OPPRESSED still capitulate and “play nice” with our oppressors??!!!! Am I the only one to which this makes absolutely no sense at all?? I for one am not afraid to say it. I totally agree with Derek and his methods. Like it or not, he got Lauren Crook to respond. And how many “nice” letters have been sent to her office unanswered or unresponded to??? But Derek took visible action via protest and look what happened. He got a response. It got noticed. And it struck a deep, deep nerve. It put them on notice that they are being watched and their slimy actions are being observed. And I also agree with him that Senator Crook is a “professional victim” and constantly uses that status to elevate her and her dad financially and politically. I know how it feels to be abused too, and you know what?, I’m being forced to deal with it and have been told by numerous counselors to get to the root of the issue and move forward. Has she done that? Doesn’t seem like it. I mean, she obviously doesn’t TRULY care about ALL kids safety since it’s been brought to her attention numerous times that children or RSO’s suffer too at the hand of her and her father’s laws. And she obviously doesn’t care too much about the sexual abuse of children since it’s been documented several times across the nation and even in the Miami Herald and Polk County news of all the abuses by DOJJ employees abusing the juveniles in the detention facilities. Why isn’t she bringing attention to that and calling for DOJJ reform??? I’ll tell you why, because that would hurt one of her big donors, GEO group. All the attention by her seems to ONLY be on making life more miserable for anyone labeled a SO in Florida and padding her pockets with GEO and taxpayer money for her charity. And she obviously doesn’t give a crap about people in general, if she is willing to use her story to cause hundreds of RSO’s to live under a bridge and create many more to become homeless. We could go on and on. Is it any more obvious how much of a POS of humanity her and her father are?? Whoever started that Ron and Lauren Book blog post is a genius and has provided MORE than enough evidence for us to digest on those two…..So Derek, I’m sorry this is happening to you. And I’m sorry that it’s broken your will to fight any longer. I get it. And it’s discouraging to be sure. Maybe one day when the US starts WW3 over in Syria and it’s used to dictate govt control over ALL OF US and they are carting us all off to FEMA camps, maybe THEN others will “get it” and say “hey, maybe now it’s time to REALLY fight back.” But then it will be too late. I admire your fighting spirit and take no offense to how you’ve fought in the past. Drastic actions result in immediate responses.
I agree with both FAC and Fed Up on this. The problem is, we ALL want to drop F bombs and ask what the F is going on why do you F’ING think you can F’ING do this etc etc…. but, to the normal citizen, who has never had any problems with the law, that just makes us look like raving lunatics. Yes, it’s a good idea to have at least SOMEONE poking the bear directly, but the way laws are written, we CAN’T get anywhere by saying F YOU LAUREN BOOK, as much as we’d like to that will just give her ammunition to say “look, see? Look how crazy and abnormal these individuals are they need to be locked away forever!” and people will agree. It’s a rock and a hard place to be sure, but reacting emotionally is what THEY do, and they have the political power and sway to do it, we do not. That is unfortunate, but that is the way it is. To revert to our primal instincts would undo everything that HAS been done.
Love your point JV. And you’re so right. Those who make the laws, hold the cards. And our balls for that matter and it’s unfortunate. But our forefathers dealt with that through revolution and driving the oppressive govt out of their land. We do not have that luxury unfortunately because the military industrial complex has gotten so big in our country, that it’s impossible for any of us to fight back. But everyone is up in arms because Derek uses colorful language online and holds protests. So what. And to your point, the idiots in govt will use anything as propaganda to brainwash average citizens and prove their point.
I agree with “Fed up”. There is no reason to be kind in any way to anyone who supports the Registries. They are not people. They are harassing terrorists. Honestly, I’d be extremely happy if every one of them was shot right between the eyes.

Well said WA. And trust me, I don’t intend to follow any of those stupid new laws when I’m off probation. I’m going to travel all over the country and enjoy myself. Other than changing my DL when I move and registering every 6 months, that’s the only thing I intend to do. The other stuff, forget it. They’ll never know anyway. Jacksonville detectives don’t care about our technical violations. They have 27 unsolved homicides in 2018 to worry about at the moment. Wage war? Trust me, I intend to.
Well, I would recommend to follow all laws. Remember that their laws are their main weapons. So follow them. But it is completely trivial to follow the laws and help ensure they are even more useless than they naturally are. People should ensure that not only the laws are useless but that they are very counterproductive.
The sex offender registry and indeed the entire concept of labeling people as “sex offenders” has always been used as a political tool by people like Books to create a climate of fear. Nothing they do is based on facts and nothing is due any respect and neither do they deserve respect.
The fact is that she uses lies to promote her agenda. She actually IS a professional victim and is play that card again and again and again to not only enrich herself but also to punish those she has never met and cares nothing about.
As public figures AND people who made legislation that effects the lives of millions, they are and rightfully so, held to higher standards – Call them out and expose their true motives and most of all their hypocrisy.

Damn straight. And they are quite unethical. They are very boldly and blatantly just stealing from taxpayers via Lauren’s Kids. That ought to be illegal.
I read somewhere that Book said that her compensation from that organization was not coming from the funds from the taxpayers but from donations, etc. Even if that is true it is still 100% unethical. Nothing but theft. They are crooks.
And is the father being paid from the organization. Think I read $138K per year, but don’t quote me on that. That would be unethical as well.
Why doesn’t Derek collect donations to pay for his expenses to travel to where these laws/legislation is being passed and let the facts be heard on behalf of 900,000 people and their families? Seems like a very effective way of using his life’s work. Calling it quits and giving up after building up a solid foundation doesn’t make any logical sense.
Because on the rare occasions I fundraise for any project, even something as small as the annual $120 fee to keep the website up, I’ve been met with plenty of public criticism & accusations of mooching off folks, with all of that criticism coming from those who profess to be activists.
I have been around longer than roughly 90% or more of anyone who currently identifies as an activist, whether that a reformist or abolitionist. Because OnceFallen is a small operation (I am the only one running the site, and maybe half a dozen help to various degrees with my social media pages), I’m low on the priority list for the meager funds those on the registry are willing and able to share with activist groups. I can understand the logic, give to a one man operation or give to a state level group or national group, many would choose the bigger group.
I HAVE been fortunate enough over the years to have received just enough donations to pay for the various projects I have done. However, this court case is going to cost a lot of money. I’m working on an appeal but my attorney, who is working pro bono, need the money for the court transcripts. This will cost hundreds, maybe even thousands, to get. There were a number of hearings spread out between August of last year and last week.
I am waiting for an estimate on cost and time will be of the essence so I’ll have to fundraise to help pay for it. I hope to know within the next couple of days.

Yes, this decision is a setback. However, I had to be reminded that all of South Florida is Book’s home field not unlike a football team with home field advantage.
I am fortunate enough to have a pretty good attorney, not a fresh out of law school one, but one who has a lot of experience. He has taken my case pro bono. However, I’m still responsible for getting things like the court transcripts, a ridiculous racket in itself. They charge $1 per page. There were at least 6 hearings, each took up an afternoon. Yeah, we’re talking hundreds, maybe thousands here.
The Book crime family has been gloating, but I have the opportunity to put the Books back on the defensive. If anyone wants to help, then contact me. Thank you DS and G, as well as those of you at FAC, for your support.
Derek, you do not reside in Florida, Book is not your Representative, they not only have the political power here but also the financial power to drag your appeal out until your penny less.
Why waste your dime and time on this? You can still publicly comment on any legislation she puts fourth as long as it’s done in a non abusive verbal attack on her.
Accept you brought this on yourself, learn from it and move on.
Moderate your discourse use a more civil tune and continue onward. You may find a benefactor rather than a donor.

As per my email and text, I believe there are more people rooting for you than you think. I hope Book is unable to silence the voice that asks for evidence based, non retaliatory laws that help fight child abuse, rather than good feel laws driven by father-daughter souls poisoned by vindictive anger and hurt. Or even worse driven by politically calculated get-the-easy-tough-on crime votes. Or just as worse, passing laws for personal benefits.
Getting too much of the truth out there makes the hate mongers like Books use “legal” intimidation to silence those who call her out on her career of using misinformation to manipulate the public for her own personal gain.
This is American politics at it worse but that is what we have come to expect from ALL Florida politicians.

It is the tune of the conversation wherein our division lies. In attacking the messengers message, I have tremendous empathy for the horrific sexual abuse that Lauren Book experienced at the hands of her “LIVE IN” nanny. Can she explain how a registry or residency restriction would have prevented her assault?
I understand the pit from which both her and her Fathers bitter vindictive legislation wells up from. Hers, a feeling of betrayal, His a feeling of failure to protect. Neither have recovered and both our acting out against the “Monsters”.
I have thought about the civility issue many, many times for over 2 decades now. And I’ve been civil and uncivil. I’ve found both useful.
Problem is that I’ve lost patience with these people. Their behavior stopped being acceptable years ago. And they are complete idiots to not remove some or all people from their glorious Registries much, much sooner than they think that should be considered. Really. Complete idiots.
So, I think it is fine to be respectful to respectable people. It is fine to be decent to decent people. But F people like the Books. They deserve one thing. Their behavior kills any and all empathy that I could have for them. So in that respect, I think the nanny was advance karma for their behavior – it was a heinous act done in advance to heinous people. So too bad for those harassers.
F the Books and people like them. Let them try to harass me more. I’ve proven I can beat them and that won’t stop. They will certainly suffer more than I will.

in my opinion trying to negotiate with the legislators is a waste of time. The only way to fight this is in the courts. Florida legislators are a joke!
I agree. And my intent is to help fund litigation within an association or membership such as FAC. I do not have the way or means to go this alone. We should pick our fights carefully and put forth those plaintiffs that do no have priors dating back decades. They only serve to stain our argument and honestly some deserve to locked away for ever.
So than of those on this blog are there not 30 or 40 of us who, for lack of a better word, can “Cough Up” 1 or 2 thousand dollars for a agreed upon action?
