For those who don’t know, Mark Foley was a member of the US House of Representatives representing Florida’s 16th District between 1995 and 2006… that is until it was discovered that he was texting and instant messaging sexually suggestive and lewd messages to teenage boys who were serving as congressional pages. When the messages became public, he was pressured to resign.
Mark Foley is also the encyclopedia example of a hypocrite. While in office, Foley was one of the foremost opponents of child pornography. He served as chairman of the House Caucus on Missing and Exploited Children. He introduced legislation to change federal sex offender laws that was signed into law as part of the Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006.
Mark Foley is the classic example of a point made in this week’s weekly update; it’s better to be rich (or politically powerful) and guilty, than poor and innocent. Had anyone else done what he did, they would still be sitting in prison, not staging a political comeback. Wait… what?
According to an article in Florida Politics from earlier this week and a response from his campaign to the Federal Election Commission, Mark Foley is considering a political comeback and is spending donations to posture himself for a potential run for office.
Only in Florida!
“[Foley] was texting and instant messaging sexually suggestive and lewd messages to teenage boys who were serving as congressional pages. When the messages became public, he was pressured to resign.
Mark Foley is also the encyclopedia example of a hypocrite.”
To impeach Foley then and now it would be necessary to know if the teens consented to the contact, or if they did not, were provably harmed by it.
Whether he is a hypocrite or not does not justify punishment on the sex matter.
I wonder how much Book will donate to his campain
Those who make the most noise and point fingers at others are probably hiding something themselves.
I am always most suspicious of those people who protest too much. Keep your eyes on this hand, while the other hand is up to no good.
I look forward to seeing if the resident airhead in the state Senate will say anything or not. Foley has a lot of the same south Florida connections.
And don’t forget Bob Allen, the state Rep out of Brevard county. Always talking about protecting kids from sex perverts and sponsoring related legislation. He got arrested in a Titusville park, on 7/11/07, trying to perform oral sex on a cop.
Noo!!! A state rep trying to blow a cop now that make me spit my coffee out lol
Jeez ! Lmao !
Not on the registry? I’m sure he did more than just that, and like all other rich predators, he’s been good at keeping it covered up.
Like I’ve said before, it’s only individuals like this that should be on the registry, if there needs to be one. They are the biggest risks to others because they have used their power and money to abuse others and to cover it up. Then they continue to hide behind their power and money. Even when they get caught, if they pay off people in the system, they don’t have to follow the rules like everybody else. They get special accommodations.
Strongly agree .
This man I swear is the worst class of hypocrite. but, it should be interesting never the less, because I think he is setting himself up for a potential disaster.
There better be no child protection policies in his political platform or they will publicly obliterate him into perpetual retirement. Which should be bitter sweet to witness.
So disgusting!!! He fled to a rehab center and I don’t even remember if he was prosecuted. No one seems to care that justice
is bought and paid for in this country.
