Our Judges are Politicians

The State of Florida has a pretty messed up system for choosing it’s judges. Instead of being appointed based on merit, they are elected. That’s right… elected! This means that our judges are politicians. Just like our senators and representatives have to take into account what is “politically popular” when making their decisions, our judges need to also take into account what’s politically popular when making their decisions.

Does anyone see a problem here?!?

A legally correct but politically unpopular decision can cost a Judge their re-election campaign. Can you imagine the political ads?

The excerpt from John Oliver’s Last Week Tonight from a couple of months ago is a must watch.

Do things make more sense now?
