Palm Beach County Rolls Back Residency Restrictions

Over one year after the Palm Beach County Sex Offender Management Board called the residency restrictions there “pointless”, the county commissioners listened and changed a law that barred registered sex offenders from living 2500 feet from schools, parks, etc. to something more reasonable; 1000 feet and in line with the State’s requirement.

The previous restrictions simply left registrants with barely any housing options, which brought lawsuits from homeless registrants who would otherwise have where to live. The move was also a smart one, as residency restrictions have never proven to be effective and, in fact, were considered to be counterproductive.
