Palmetto Senior High School music teacher had sex with student, police say

We keep hearing stories about teachers having relationships with students, yet the legislature keeps pushing these residency restrictions and proximity ordinances.

When will people learn that students have a much greater likelihood of being victimized by their TEACHER on or or near a school than they do by a registered sex offender?

Seriously! How many instances of a registered sex offender assaulting someone at a school have there been during the past year? How about during the past 10 years? I’ll bet there are at least ten times as many instances of a teacher sexually assaulting a minor at school than a registrant.

PINECREST, Fla. –

A South Florida music teacher was arrested last week after he had sex with a student, police said.

Miami Palmetto Senior High School music teacher Christopher Best, 28, was arrested Friday on 10 counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor.

According to the Miami-Dade police report, a 17-year-old girl told police that she and Best “grew feelings for each other” while Best was her teacher.

Best and the teen started dating and had sex at least 10 times during their nine-month relationship, the girl told police.

On two occasions, the girl told police, she had oral sex with Best in the music room at school.

The girl said she and Best also had sex “in various motels” throughout Miami-Dade County.

Best confessed to having a “private” relationship with the girl, but he denied having sex with her, the report said.

“The school district was immediately notified of the allegations and, based on their clear policies governing staff and students, Mr. Best is no longer employed by Miami-Dade County Public Schools,” a school district spokeswoman said in a statement.

According to an April 2013 school newsletter, Best is a former rookie teacher of the year at Miami Palmetto Senior High School.
